Discover Together Beta : Announcement & Feedback

I really like this feature, however I think quite a few people would like to share their watch history, ratings, and more with their ‘Home Users’ (family), and friends. My family don’t have their own Plex pass, but share my account. I imagine others likely would want the same Discovery Together for Home Users.

Thank you,
Eli

I don’t know if this is a bug, but last night I watched a movie and it’s not appearing on discover in my Watch History (or anywhere else on discover). But it is marked as watched and when I checked the user playback history on the server it also appears there too.

Edit: same with rating. I just rated this movie but it doesn’t appear in My Rating in Discover. I’m beginning to wonder if this has something to do with this specific movie? It is matched correctly with metadata, but it has an edition tag (unlike most other movies I watch).

Hi, that’s correct, currently we support syncing only “non-edition” movies

I hope this can be fixed… editions are, for all intents and purposes, the same movies.

Can now be grant library access to some one without being friends

Can also mute friend activity or block someone previously friends with.

Does the other person get notified when you unfriend them? :eyes:

This didn’t work as intended. Using the web UI at app.plex.tv I unfriended and they lost library access too.

The other person will not be notified that you unfriended them

Could you list the steps that you followed? Also, could you confirm that you did not tick this box when unfriending the user?

Wouldn’t it be cool if we can turn on comments for all the Users of a shared server ?
Like: we can see comments from people on the same server to see if they liked a movie without being forced to be friend with them ?

Another example of the multiple edition feature not being finished or anywhere near what users asked for when the feature request was made 11 years ago. Multiple editions of movies have been a widespread thing since DVDs first became popular. It’s now 2023 and a digital media library still can’t fully support something that’s been a mainstay in the movie world for over two decades.

Can “Activity” page have filters (something like the screenshot)? Currently it shows everything and no way to find anything through the mess.

Capture

Bonus: If would also be amazing if I can further filter it via Friends (as individual types can’t be muted for friends).

Hey, this feature set seems interesting.
I have been using an external media tracker for more than a decade so seeing some features being brought right into Plex makes me wonder if I will be able to replace it with Plex!

Although, for that to be the case, this would need to be possible in my opinion:

Importing historical watch data/ratings from external tools (Trakt, etc…)
The perfect solution would be for it to be available via API, allowing the open source community to adapt it to a multitude of external tools

Are there any plans to implement something like this? (maybe it’s already there and I don’t know it?)

Hello, I recently signed up for the Discover Together beta and would like to provide some feedback following this wonderful discovery :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:.

I’ve noticed several issues:

  1. When first joining, all items that have been put on the watchlist in the past are notified in the activity. E.g. items that I watchlisted over a year ago, then saw and therefore removed from the watchlist, show up as watchlisted in the activity. After a test, this bug does not concern new additions → deletions to the watchlist.
  2. Stats for movies/series/episodes seen since this person joined Plex range from approximate to completely wrong E.g. a person who watched the entirety of breaking bad is seen with 0 series and 0 episodes seen.

I have a few suggestions after spending hours on the activity section:

  1. I haven’t had a chance to see it in this topic with my keyword searches (I confess I haven’t read all 274 posts) but the homogeneity of the activities makes the experience somewhat unreadable. Would it be possible, without it being too cumbersome to modify, to give each type of activity a different format?
  2. Messages and their responses could be grouped together. E.g. if I recommend Barbie to a friend with the message “That’s interesting, you should check it out” and he replies “Ok, I’ll check it out” it would make more sense for the reply to be displayed in the same block as the original message for better readability, and this block would be moved up to the date of the reply.
  3. Globally, group repetitive activities that follow each other. E.g. if I’m watching 4 episodes of Breaking Bad, group them together in a single block with links to each episode (to remain consistent with the current layout).
  4. Still on the subject of episode activity, it might be a good idea to remove the image, which takes up a lot of space even though it serves no useful purpose. In fact, we can’t choose this famous image, as it doesn’t refer to our PMS but to the image defined in Discover, which can even be annoying when we’ve modified an image on our PMS so that it doesn’t spoil an element of the story.
  5. I also agree with the suggestions for filters based on the type of activity.

This is just feedback and a personal feeling based on my “abusive” use of film tracking platforms. I can’t wait to see what you come up with for this feature, which could compete with some behemoths in the field.

Why is the “Friends” tab renamed to “People” when all of the operations relate to “Friends”? Genuinely curious!

As far as I know folks felt that the suggestions are not friends yet so it could be confusing. But afaik it is also not set in stone. We may end up changing it back.

Search Feedback:
Correct me if I am wrong but it’s not possible to visit “More Ways to Watch” page when it detects result in single server. When it detect the query on multiple servers then I get a pop up to choose from servers, as well option to visit “More Ways to Watch” but not when query is detected on single server.

You’re wrong  but this feedback has come up before so you are not alone.

The result should have a subtitle on the card that calls out the single PMS availability. You’ll need to select that subtitle to open the source picker to select the More Ways to Watch source.
