Looks like we know why Plex, inc lied to us about Discover being out-out. CEO Keith Valory NEEDED those metrics for valuation to drive the series C-3 round of investment. Well played. Still no mitigation for potentially dangerous (especially concerning with Keith being from the Bay area - he should know better) emails being sent to “friends” automatically with zero user input.
It doesn’t appear that Plex has taken responsibility, or apologized, for their disregard for privacy. Have they corrected their opt-out mistake? I’ve been using Emby for a few months now. Their support for composers and multiple track artists has transformed my library, so I haven’t kept up with Plex.
They touted it heavily in their yearly wrap up newsletter, which was well after all the backlash so I would say theyre doubling down more than anything.
Jason Chapnik or Keith Valory (the only people in charge at plex, inc) will never apologize because this is the direction Chapnik is forcing Valory to take plex, inc.
Since there is no real competition to plex, plex has no problem with sharing watching history with friends because Chapnik is forcing Valory to have plex become a social media network. Especially how sharing watch history is absolutely, 100% opt-out.
At least plex, inc fixed sharing hardcore porn to children in the discovery feature. I was worried the plex product would become more useful for users in the future, but am reminded of disappointment with very “improvement” Chapnick forces upon plex.
