Discover / universal search filters & home hubs

The sole reason that I started experimenting with Plex was to get a more efficient experience looking for something to watch. The Universal search & watchlist is great – broader than AppleTV. However, it is immensely frustrating that there’s still no way to NOT display things I’ve already seen in the rows/hubs on any service that I’ve tried, including Plex. It’s such a massive time waste to keep scrolling past the same titles over and over again trying to find the needle in the haystack of something worth watching that’s new to me. Solving this would make Plex THE killer app of streaming!

I’d like to be able to customize the rows / hubs in the home screen (NOT pin libraries) such that:

Home

  • Remove all the default hubs [mod-edit: implemented / already possible → see below]
  • Save an advanced search and pin the results as a hub/row on the home screen [mod-edit: implemented / already possible → see below]

Search

  • Filter out watched items from Discover and [mod-edit: duplicate → see below] Universal search – currently only possible with locally saved content on a home server
  • Filter out ad supported content [mod-edit: duplicate → see below]
  • Filter out content from streaming services which I don’t subscribe to [mod-edit: implemented / already possible → see Configure Your Streaming Services in the related support article]
  • “Thumbs down” – quickly mark a title as “not interested” so that it doesn’t show up in search or on a hub ever again.

Universal Watchlist

  • When a title on my watch list becomes available in a format I want to watch (eg on one of my subscribed streaming services, not ad supported) add it to a hub/row on the home screen [mod-edit: implemented / already possible → see below]

Please stick to the rules for feature suggestion and go with 1 suggestion per thread. Otherwise users can only vote for the full package, either forcing them to vote for stuff they don’t want for the sake of another included suggestion or getting no votes because users don’t support the package in its entirety).

As for your suggestions…

You should already be able to do that for most hubs linked to your own or shared libraries (Continue Watching is probably an exception and cannot be removed); the hubs from Plex’ Discover or video-on-demand services are indeed linked to those services being pinned to the sidebar.

You can already do that using smart collections.

There’s already a number of related suggestions, discussing that option

Though I couldn’t find a request/suggestion discussing a particular option/filter to hide watched items from search.

There’s already an existing feature suggestion discussing an option/preference to hide Plex’ on-demand media from the search.

If you don’t want to use Plex online media sources, you can disable them for good and they won’t show in the search results to start with.

Those seem to be unique suggestions (at least I couldn’t find existing suggestions specifically focusing on those topics).

You can enable notifications for items on your watchlist being available on a selected streaming provider.
You should already have a hub Available from your Watchlist if Discover is pinned to the sidebar.
