I like the idea of editions, but it really does need improvement. Found an issue as written below - seems editions don’t show up in multiple places (like when clicking an actor to see other movies/tv shows with them in it)
Unfortunately yo may not like these features - and I don’t use them either - but unlike a lifetime plex pass, these feature generate cash flow which PLEX needs to stay alive.
The idea they presented a couple years ago about having multiple services under a single unified interface would have been pretty good if they had been able to convince Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney+, Paramount+ and AppleTV+ to pay them to be included in the Plex interface. Too bad they could only get trash TV, the left over content the other services wouldn’t pay for.
Shoutout to all the other people who have been waiting on an actual fix to this for 11 years. The feature request will soon be ready for Junior High School.
They still haven’t even implemented editions for TV shows… Very cool…
How do you learn what they’re currently working on?
It seems Plex has no interest whatsoever in TV Shows anymore.
After such a long time still no TV Show Extras for Seasons and Episodes. Also no editions for TV Episodes.
One useless update of the clients after the other with no improvement or changes.
Extras is the only reason for using this “new agent” at all. But by using it, you lose the only reliable metadata-source and replace it with rubbish, so you must put the correct metadata in MP4-tags for every show before uploading it. The promised download-function also does not work reliably. So the whole Plex pass is as useless as this new agent.
I will wait for some more months, but then stop paying for a useless Plexpass, downgrade to a reliable version with tvdb as metadatasource and stop upgrading forever.
Do you realise that you are able to change the scanner back to the TVDB?
Yes, but I spent endless weeks preparing all the extras of my TV Shows to match Plex naming guidelines and the old TVDB agent does not support extras.
So at the moment the choice is, extras at least on my mobile (too small to view ofc) and rubbish metadata or no extras at all and correct metadata.
Either one is a bad choice.
And they announced the old agents will be removed in a future update.
UPDATE: As I noticed my PlexPass expires NOW and I found another interesting product in the Hetzner thread, I didn’t wait some months as I said before, canceled my PlexPass immediately and started transferring my data to Jellyfin. Good Progress so far, good TVDB metadata instead of rubbish, extras on season level and the few problems I had could all be fixed by editing a few NFO files.
In a few days, I made more progress than in endless months waiting for Plex. For no money at all, without needing to “claim” my own server, without a client wasting parts of the screen for some rotten tomatoes, without the need to edit all episodes with a tag editor, without the need to disable a lot of useless stuff. Thanks to this forum, almost every problem is solved now.
Actually you can do extras for TV shows. I do this occasionally for shows I rip from my blu-ray collection. You should check out this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHUBiekS0oA
You can also make your own editions of episodes (extended, unrated etc) and have them included in the extras category. Quite easy once you get the hang of it!
Continuing the discussion from Discussion of Multiple Editions:
Have you all seen this?

I’d really love to know what they’re working on? This half hearted workaround isn’t going to cut it. It’s depressing honestly that this issue has been open as long as it has, from thread to thread, without any official response from the team. For me, I really need support for multiple languages.
WDYM? What makes you think they are working on that?
The feature description just matches what’s there already.
Hey Plex, could we at least get the option to unify movies though we don’t end up with multiple editions in the search results, general overview’s, etc…
At this point I don’t care anymore about other features because I could live with everything else but find it annoying to differentiate in the beginning while selecting a movie.
Agreed, we shouldn’t have to split editions apart into separate movies. Thankfully when you search for something, most players ask you which version you want to play, but they really should be combined under one title with an included toggle to switch between the different editions. Something like shown in the photo below that had been suggested by someone else already.
That would be me hahaha, low-key makes me sad when I see this concept get rehashed because I still stand by it and wish this was the implementation ![]()
I think I would rather see the edition picker down below the title/description and maybe right above the play button.
I can understand the argument for tabs at the top that change the entire page, but from a mental flow, picking an edition seems more like choosing multiple audio tracks and subtitles. I want to read the title, description and then start thinking about how to control the experience with editions, audio tracks, subtitles, etc.
I also don’t think it should be burred under the three-dot menu since it is a hierarchical choice that affects the audio and subtitles and even the description area. It should be visible at all times which edition is selected and that there are other editions to choose from.
I posted the idea in another thread of adding sets of buttons for each Edition:

Note that I added the numbering you see above to the actual Edition name myself, so my file structure looks like this:

At the moment I split multiple Editions and then add them to a Collection (hiding the items in the main Library page), but the problem I have now is that Plex doesn’t allow ‘stacked’ Collections, so I can’t have multiple Editions of a particular movie within another Collection.
is this photoshop or possible today?
I like this.
The requests to fix the half-baked implementation aren’t going away Plex, so start listening to your paying customers and stop being so bloody arrogant.
