Hi! I’ve uploaded the Pixar Short Films Volume 1 (with 13 short films) onto my computer. First I placed them as individual films, then as individual tv shows, then as a folder with them all in, under “Pixar Short Films”, but every time in the Plex app it only shows 2 of the film’s. I’ve named them each “Pixar Short Films - Film Name - (Year)”, based on the info in TVDB.
Can anyone help with what I’m doing wrong, please?
Plex doesn’t use TVDb for movie libraries… just name them as the movies they are.
Example
Shorts <- the folder linked to your library
La Luna (2011)
La Luna (2011).ext
Lifted (2006)
Lifted (2006).ext
Piper (2016)
Piper (2016).ext
Where .ext is a placeholder for the actual file extension.
Personal preference…
I have created a separate movie-type library for short films (that’s mainly Pixar’s shorts and some Blender foundation ones). If you want to keep them inside your regular movie library you can group them in a collection – this way they can be grouped as a single item in your library.
Edit:
Just found why you were referring TVDB…
Just keep in mind you need to name the files in line with the tv-show naming schema / folder structure for Plex to recognize them in a tv-show library!!
Example (TV)
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show type library
Pixar Short Films
Season 2006
Pixar Short Films - s2006e01 - Lifted.ext
Season 2011
Pixar Short Films - s2011e01 - La Luna.ext
Season 2016
Pixar Short Films - s2016e01 - Piper.ext
*Where .ext is a placeholder for the actual file extension (as above) – in this case you can also drop the “episode” (=short film) titles or only keep them to identify the shorts more easily in your file system.
Thank you for your reply.
So I’m pretty sure I’ve done that, with the exception of putting ext at the end of the files. Is that really important?
And why have 2 of the movies come up, but not the others, and also not in a single folder for Pixar Short Films?
.ext is just a placeholder for your actual file extension. Windows will by default hide those.
Which mode have you been using – have you added the files to a movie or tv-show type library and based on which schema are they named? I suspect Plex has recognized the files but treats them as duplicates of the 2 other ones. If you click on and go to the Info tab on those two items… does it show just that single file or a whole bunch of file names?
Usually this implies some bad naming. I recommend you fix that at its source to avoid having to manually fix it again in case you need to rebuild your library.
The “quick and dirty” workaround is to use the Split Apart action from the movie’s context menu (⋮)
Thanks, that worked as far as seeing all the film’s separately. Now, how would info about getting them all under one file. So, for example, seeing the Pixar Film Collection, clicking on it and then finding all 13 movies in there to choose from,
Yeah, that’s what I’ve got. But it found all the other 12 movies, but not that one. When I went in to fix match, it was finding other short movies with Luxor in, but not that one.
Weird!
You can enter the reference of an external database to try “convincing” Plex.
Try entering tmdb-13925 or imdb-tt0091455 (or just tt0091455) in the search field and clear the year when manually searching/matching.
