Display Problems on the Main Page

Hi all,

Recently updated my server. Running Plex on Mac OS.

Now whenever I view a movie, the poster/listing duplicates in the “continue watching” section on the home page. If I mark one as “watched” then they both vanish. So, they’re obviously the same file and location, just displaying twice over.

Same goes for any recently added movies - I get at least two images showing up. Sometime more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I couldn’t find a post on it.

This usually means you have either

  • created two libraries which point to the same files
  • have a duplicate file for the same movie in a second library
  • have pointed your library to two different folder paths which do overlap

‘Edit’ all your movie libraries and inspect the folder paths which appear under the ‘Add Folders’ tab.

Thanks for your reply.

**created two libraries which point to the same files - **No, just one library. I create libraries based on folder names and stick to that one folder.

**have a duplicate file for the same movie in a second library - **Not that, either. One file copy in seperate folders/libraries.

**have pointed your library to two different folder paths which do overlap - **Not that. Like I say, I have one library per each folder only.

click on the ellipsis ( . . . ) on both of the duplicate posters and request ‘information’.
Compare the file names.

Yes they are both the same.

Example:
/Volumes/8TB/Movies/- Superhero/Ant-man.mp4
/Volumes/8TB/Movies/- Superhero/Ant-man.mp4

It only seems to do it with Movies and not TV series or videos

Did you edit the path name in your library definition at some point in the past?

All you can do to rectifiy this situation is to perform the Plex Dance with all affected items.
You should be able to recognise them by the little ‘2’ on their posters.

No, I had plex set up on a different server, but I changed servers. So, instead of trying to copy it all etc, I set up an entirely new Plex server and redid all the Playlists again. In other words, I started fresh, as if I’d never done it before.

It worked perfectly before on an older version of Plex. It’s only this new version.

They don’t display as duplicates in the actual playlists, only on the home screen, which is obviously annoying.

I know about unmatching files and duplicates, so I know it’s not that causing the problem.

Anyone else able to shed light on this problem at all? Would really appreciate it.
