OK, I have a problem with every console version of Plex I have.
I record MotorWeek from the local PBS station using my HDHR Extend (transcode model). Video is 720p.
In this case, I am watching on a Panasonic 60VT50. 1080p of course.
XBOX 360 shows the video in a box in the center of the screen, with black borders on both sides. XBOX is set for 1080p.
PS3 shows the video in letterbox format, squashed, with bars on top and bottom, but is otherwise fine. PS3 set for 1080p.
PS4 also shows in letterbox format, just like PS3. It’s set to 1080p also.
HTPC shows video as it should be. Plex on Roku 3 and Roku XD plays back correctly also.
Plex server version 0.9.12.12
you haven’t mentioned what ratio it should be. 4:3 i am assuming?
can you post the full media info xml https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201998867-Investigate-Media-Information-and-Formats
16:9, it’s a brand new HDTV recording.
As I said before, it’s a 720p recording, but it should fill the screen.

I can’t remember how to get the XML to post to the forum, but I think the above will help.
720p is not a ratio. it is a resolution
Pixel Width 1280 Height 540 is 2.39:1 ratio which would be letterboxed on a 16:9 TV so it should have black bars on top and bottom on a 16:9 modern TV
it is curious why it also says “Aspect Ratio 1.78” which is another way of saying 16:9. since the pixel width x height is not that.
but anyway can you post the full xml rather than just the basic info. i am curious if the file might have the anamorphic flag or other troublesome flag. the devs will want the full info at least
i’ve never used that recording software. is it only that show which this happens?
I realize that 720p is not a ratio. That is why I said 16:9. It was the first thing I said.
Please remind me how to post the xml
I knew how to get to the XML, I couldn’t figure out how to post it. I have saved it and attached the file this time. It would not allow me to attach an XML, so I changed it to TXT.
is it possible to get sample file that cause the same thing? maybe a recording only a minute or two long
