I’m just starting out trying Plex and using it to arrange my movie selection. Over the years, I’ve named my movies by file names that I prefer to the actual movie title so they show in order (for instance, I like to use “Die Hard 1”, “Die Hard 2”, etc.) instead of garbage like “Live Free or Die Hard” since that messes up the order they show in.
Long story short, is there a setting in Plex that allows me to display the file name rather than the metadata name for movies?

No. But you can edit the name and thereby change what is displayed.
I think it is better to first name your file correctly like “Live Free or Die Hard (2007).ext” and use the sort field to get the movies grouped/sorted correctly.
Or you can use the collection feature and get all the related movies in a collection and sort them by date released.
Ah, that is most unfortunate. I really liked the system I had of sorting by filename. I guess I lost that in the name of progress

you could also tag those related movies as Collections – this way you can configure your Plex Server to display 1 “Die Hard” entry in your library which contains all the actual movies in the sequence they were released.
I see where you’re coming from… before getting inline collections, I manually added sort titles to all those franchises which don’t properly sort by title (e.g. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Star Wars). However that resulted in e.g. “Forgotton World - Jurassic Park” (JP2) to show up under “J”.
That’s why I like those collections so much… movies can have their names but they’ll still show up properly organized in the grouping they belong to and being sorted correct.

In the US that is called “Lost World - Jurassic Park.” I am interested in alternative naming. Where is that name used for “Jurassic Park 2?”

German version is called “Vergessene Welt: Jurassic Park”. “Vergessen” literally translates to “Forgotten” – but the meaning can also be “Lost”.

Well “Forgotten” fits pretty well as well as “Lost.” I just thought it might be a difference like “Harry Potter and the Sorcer’s Stone” vs “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” where even some dialog in the movie was changed (I am not even sure which was first although I suspect it was the former. Or, maybe, like the “Taco Bell” vs “Pizza Hut” in “Demolition Man” where advertising rights were a an issue.
Holy crap, I never heard about the Demolition man Taco Bell / Pizza Hut thing. That’s hilarious :-). Just one more thing to love about that movie!
