I absolutely love the new Guest DJ feature in Plexamp and obviously it’s going to get better as technology improves but I’ve noticed a glitch in DJ Freeze, not sure if it occurs in any of the other DJ versions. Say you have several versions of a track on different albums, for example David Bowie’s Fame appears on Young Americans, ChangesBowie & The Best of Bowie. DJ Freeze will play it, then play something it thinks is sonically similar & then on occasion play Fame again from a different album. Is there any way to prevent this from happening or because it’s playing it from a different album does it see it as a different track?
I’m sure we’ll have to wait for Elan’s response to this but how I’ve managed to avoid this situation by rating what tracks I specifically want played with anything above 3 stars rating. If I know there are multiple versions of said track and I don’t want them played, I go through the albums myself and rate each multiple track 1 star so they have no reason to be picked. I know that seems tedious and everything should be “automatic” from the perspective of expecting Plex to work properly but the truth of the matter is, if the tracks are left untouched with no personal rating whatsoever applied, how will it know WHICH exact version you want played? I feel like there’s gotta be some human interaction/intervention needed to steer the algorithm. I don’t mind doing it myself, especially if I can tame the situation per my liking.

Thank for your response, yeah that does sound a bit tedious but it’s definitely a work around, I would have hoped that using the information music scanner collects or ID3 tags there would be some way of programming plexamp to say, if you have played a track called Fame by David Bowie don’t play it again this session. Hopefully Elan can shed some light on the issue.
I’ll add that this issue hasn’t all been solved by say other streaming services, which too should have solved this by now with their own algorithms but it’s still an issue. I welcome whatever can be done to minimize it, especially on our own servers.

i would assume you might see the same issue with track radio? i ask because it’s similar shared tech under the hood. also, are all of those albums matched properly, and if you view xml on them does the guid attribute match? we should be able to dedupe but we need to know they are the same tracks.
