DLNA profile for an audiophile

Once again I turn to the dark side in a vain attempt to use DLNA to stream to a new bit of kit.

I currently have 2 audio devices from Arcam that theoretically can stream Hi-Res FLAC via DLNA/UPNP. However, my music collection is all ALAC (I use iTunes and iTunes Match) so I don’t want to re-encode close to an TB of music.

Anyhow, it should be easy to create a DLNA profile that will have the Plex encoder transcode ALAC -> FLAC in real-time preserving Lossless bitperfect hi-res audio, but I will be buggered if I can get it to work.

I literally only use DNLA for music, so frankly, it doesn’t need to be complicated, and only needs to give that one instruction. Transcode everything to FLAC, and Robert should be my mothers brother.

If anyone has success doing something please share.

(There also seems to be a bitrate limit of 288kpbs coming from somewhere, that I can’t see to over-rule)

Thanks

Floyd

AFAIR, plex dlna doesn’t transcode at all, if your client can’t play the file as is, it just wont play.

I could be wrong though, been years since I used dlna.

Pretty sure it can, as I have seen other users reporting that they have DLNA transcode everything to 128kbps MP3

Plex DLNA server can transcode, but it cannot transcode lossless to lossless.

Ouch. OK

But I wonder why?
