Plex Media Server Logs_2019-09-20_18-54-17.zip (336.8 KB)

Hi folks, I am new to the Plex system. Got it installed and running on Western Digital My cloud EX2. Turned on DLNA. Successfully added library and set up content in it. My smart TV is able to see the server (in teh DLNA menu) but does NOT show any content. I’ve attached server logs. Anyone out there who has solved this problem? Many thanks!

Do you have your content in sub Folders?

Example:

Movies/John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum (2019)/John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum.mkv

Yes I do. The path looks like: \WDMYCLOUDEX2\kannan\Star Wars\Rogue.One.2016

To clarify, the path I gave above was pulled from Windows Explorer. On the NAS, I have a share set up with read/write access enabled. In that share, there is folder called Star Wars\Rogue.One 2016. There are many others too…None of them show up on my Aquos TV

Oh, this Tv does not support avi or Mkv files solution mp4 or a box like Roku Ultra or a shield. A more expensive solution new Tele like a LG OLED or Samy

Hey - thanks. That is great insight, though a little disappointed. I’m curious though - because if I were take the same videos, stick on a USB and connect it to the TV it plays just fine. So the issue cannot be that the TV does not support .mkv files - has to do something else. On the same note even .mp4 or .mpg is not displayed. Neither is .jpg or other standard image files. Basically anything accessed through DLNA interface on the TV comes up with ‘no data’ on the TV.

Any suggestions?

You have it enabled on the server side I gather.

So for Sharp TVs I have found, the DLNA Client is severely lacking. That said, I’ve since discovered that it’s not so much the file type, MP4, MK4V, etc that makes the difference, but rather the codec that was used to encode the file. (Again, this is specifically related to DLNA). If you don’t have it already, download ffpmeg, and run ffmpeg -i . In the output, you’re looknig for the value of Video: it should be h264, h265 or something like that. The same thing for Audio: ac3, aac, mp3 etc.

I have found Sharp TVs tend to work best with the h264 codec. You may need to re-encode your file… (I did).

Thanks for that insight. Will try it out.

So here is the latest on my saga…

  1. I gave up trying to make the Sharp TV to play back files served from my NAS device.

  2. I installed PLEX app on my Amazon firestick - it saw the server and I could browse the videos

  3. When I try to play videos, all I get is a spinning disc, nothing happens

  4. I refreshed the library, restarted the server - still nothing. Then the Plex app crashed - would not load on the firestick. Uninstalled and reinstalled.

  5. There was one video that played well. I tried loading that - even that doesnt play. All I get is a spinning wheel on the TV screen

  6. I think copied the movies that did NOT Play to a USB drive, stuck it in the USB port of the Sharp TV. The TV plays it without a problem.

Leads me to think that the encoding is acceptable, but something is still wrong on the Plex environment. Any suggestions?

For reference, the following is the encoding details of the video that did NOT Play through PLEX but successfully played from USB media:
