Ok, I’ve been over every google result containing any of the words associated with the title of this post, as well as a number of (solved) posts here - but none to avail.
I have an Arris CM820 modem, an AirPort Extreme router, Plex is running on the biggest badassiest windows 7 tower you’ve ever seen, with PlexConnect (v5 from the official release site) to my apple TV (gen3).
i’ve been running this setup for a couple years now - a few months back however i suffered a terminal power outage/surge that cost me a couple thousand dollars in replacement equipment. Anyway, here I am with a brand new build - couple 5 disk RAID’s for my data, SSD’s for the OS’s and VM’s (no VM’s are really a factor though, i think im just being an thorough as possible at this point - PlexConnect is running on the Win7 host)… anyway, it’s back up finally! I got all my data ported back over, got the server back up, got the friends shared back in - all has been well for about a month or so. I stream from work to my phone all the time, I use the xbox app to connect in-house as well as OOO, everything works exactly as it should - with the fantastic buffering i’ve come to know and love from Plex.
… then a Friday came along. it wasn’t just any friday, it was the worst friday that there has ever been… the kind of Friday where you come home to find your wife pissed because the media server isn’t working and you aren’t surprised in the slightest - except for having expected to find the house burnt to the ground and instead it’s ONLY the media server.
anyway, there was a month of stability - long enough for me to safely say “nothing has changed”, just all of a sudden there are DNS issues. The ATV connects just fine, but somewhere between one minute in and 30 minutes in the DNS error starts showing up in the PlexConnect - over and over. the media stream will start jittering, stopping and starting, and then it’ll stop completely - dumping out to the home screen and starting again (doesn’t matter if it’s trailer/plex or hulu, netflix, etc…) doesn’t change anything - the video playback has stopped completely (obviously because of the DNS issue…) however a complete restart of ATV resolves enough to let you start playing video again, until the random interval has passed and the problems resume.
I’ve made all the DNS changes you can make, from google DNS, to OpenDNS, to my ISP’s DNS, i even VPN’d into my work network (which i could probably go to jail for) - ive switched the wireless router from DHCP, DHCP/NAT, Bridge, nothing makes any changes. I don’t understand why this problem would just crop up out of nowhere - nor do I know where to go from here.
I’m not sure how to pull the PlexConnect log, because that’s where the usable info will be, but I can tell you that the DNS error string in the subject is basically all the information that is provided on-screen. If you have any direction on where to pull that log from i’m happy to do so and provide it.
any relative insight will be GREATLY appreciated!
