Does a Plex Pass subscription allow iOS friends to watch content without limitation ?

Hi,
I’m not sure to have correctly understood how the plex pass subscription works.
I’ve subscribed to Plex Pass in order to allow my friends to enjoy my shared content ithout limitation and to avoid them individually to pay for unlock the application.
Or a friend with iOS Plex application has a message telling him he cannot watch more than 1 minute…

Even if i pay a plex pass, do they need to unlock their applications ???

Thanks fou your help.

If you pay for a Plex Pass it will unlock your Plex account. Your friends have their own Plex accounts and will need to either separately purchase Plex Pass or buy the application.

Ok thank you for your quick, clear and efficient answer.
I thought it would unlock all features when accessing to my library. Actually everybody have to pay. Very expensive finally…
Hopefully i only took one month subscription.

@Diako82 The only way that they can use your Plex Pass features is adding them to a Plex Home.

Members of a Plex Home receive most benefits of a Plex Pass subscription. This means that members of the Home—whether a Managed User or a regular Plex Account—can make use of Plex Pass features based on the admin’s Plex Media Server.

Thank you for this solution.
I will check the consequences to add user to plex home et not only as a friend.
Thanks again

The consequence would be that you have to give them your username and password so they can sign in to your account. You could lock your account by creating a 4 digit pin though, so they can’t access it from Plex clients and have administrator privileges (e.g. changing server settings). If you trust them completely, then there shouldn’t be a huge problem with this. That’s up to you though. Right now, I only have the users in my house on my Plex Home, but I’m considering adding a friend.

This is not “entirely” true. If you have them create a Plex.tv account, then invite that to be a part of your Plex Home they would be able to log in with their own account (not needing yours at all). The above it true however if you use the “Managed Account” option when setting it up.

Oh wow, you’re right. I could have sworn I had to sign in with my account, but I just tried it and it works on the Android app. It just asks you to subscribe to Plex Pass, which is what might have made me think it didn’t work before. But I tried playing a video and it worked longer than 1 minute. Thank you very much @adamskoog.

So after figuring that out, I’d say there’s not really any downside as long as you have a pin on your account. I at least feel comfortable adding my friend to my Plex Home.

I thought they changed that? I thought they were making it so anyone with multiple plex.tv accounts had to have the server installed on each account. This was due to people selling subscriptions

The downside is that the other users are just one 4-digit PIN away from your level of access.
Because Plex Home activates Fast user switching.
None of the other users should have an own Plex server.
