Dolby Atmos not displayed in Plex library

Wanted to ask everyone if there is a way to show the movie is in Dolby Atmos in Plex? I’m ripping my movies to MKV files and MakeMKV shows it as True HD since the Atmos info is embedded in there. But of course when the movie is scrapped in Plex, it shows True HD when in fact its really Atmos.
Any way to get it to show correctly?

Thanks!

No there is not. Plex have to pay royalties / licence fees to show these kind of logos / display information. The less information they can show, the less they have to pay.

You can see why this probably won’t happen.

Was wondering if there was a way to change it. I know you can use Ember Media Manager to change metadata info for Kodi and then it saves it as an specific file that Kodi recognizes. Just thought you could do something similar for Plex.
If its a licence type issue, why does it show True HD in Plex? Are they paying for one and not the other??

I’ll pay for the license fee for the logos how much could it possibly be, those logos are used all over the place. Having a program to play Media files that doesn’t display your Media files info is silly.

When I used to tinker using Kodi I could use Ember Media Manager and change the metadata to read correct which included the audio codec to make sure the correct logo info showed up. Of course this info lived in the NFO file which I dont think Plex uses at all. You could also edit the XML file as well which made it show up. As long as you had the logo that corresponded to the correct codec it all worked.
I tried using MKVToolNix to try to change the codec since it was labeled as “A_TRUEHD” and for some reason it didnt work. Not sure exactly why but there has to be a way to get Plex to accurately show the correct audio. Is this nit-picky, sure…but why not have everything display the correct way!!!

Royalties just to identify?

No logos, no codecs, just saying “That’s Atmos audio.”

MediaInfo clearly identifies Atmos enabled audio tracks and is distributed as Open Source. I’m no lawyer, and I don’t play one on TV, but pretty sure that wouldn’t be possible if it contained code covered by a patent, requiring a royalty payment, etc.

This is exactly my point. There shouldn’t be any reason why Plex should not be able to display the audio info correctly for Dolby Atmos, etc.
For the Plex folks: why not make the edit function a little more intuitive and let the user adjust/edit the metadata more in depth. As an example, check out the functionality of Zapitti. With their user interface, the user scrapes the movie and if anything isnt right, the user can edit it just by typing in the correct audio codec, frame rate, HD or SD, etc etc. WITHOUT the need to figure out XML, use third party software that could screw everything up, etc.
All I’m asking/requesting is to allow the Plex user to display the correct info. Again, is this nit-picky? Sure it is, but I’m sure alot of users want things done and displayed correctly instead of something “just to get by”.

Opened a Feature Request to correctly identify & display Atmos/dts:X/dts-HD MA audio.

I did not see an open, pre-existing request. If one exists, the moderators will probably close mine and include a link to the prior request.

FYI: How to vote for Feature Requests (click Like, replies and +1s don’t count).

Awesome and thanks again. Hopefully we can get this done!
