Hi, I need some help
The problem is when I play Dolby TrueHD the audio “freezes” in small frequencies (Dropbox link below) As you can hear, it is very annoying and it’s frustrating the hell out of me. It happens a little now and then.
It’s ONLY in Dolby TrueHD and in high action scenes when It’s very loud, like for example a gun shooting scene. If I watch DTS-HD MA everything flows perfectly.
Setup:
NVIDIA Shield pro (2019)
LG C9 77
Denon AVR-X550BT
1 Gbit/s ( up & down, cable cat 6)
So…
I don’t understand why it just happens in TrueHD and not in DTS-HD MA, I mean they both are lossless audio codec and my receiver can handle them both.
I tested TrueHD on my setup (similar to yours) and had issues playing TrueHD through my shield, but it worked fine through Plex on my LG.
My server is on a NAS, but I play via shield or LG TV connected to a Sony AV (STR-DN1080)
Shield: Plex - bad
Shield Kodi native - bad
Shield Kodi Plex - bad
LG Plex - ok
Shield support 1 Gbit/s, so if u play high bitrate 4k movies it will go up to an incredibly high speed.
And you can not get Dolby TrueHD by HDMI-ARC? The TV support eARC but my AV Receiver only support ARC and SPDIF doesn’t have the bandwidth for the high bitrate digital formats.
After hours of research i found the solution, Nvidia Shield at least I thought so…
To be fair I only tested 1 film, so it was hardly conclusive, but as noone else is chipping in I thought I should reply as I did have an issue too
While my LG did play it, it wasn’t happy if I skipped back or forward a few times. It would still play, but it looked like it couldn’t figure out the TrueHD encoding and would slowly cycle through what looked like the layers or filters that make up the visuals.
Easy fix was to stop playback then resume and it was fine again.
Mind you, my issues were all to do with video. My audio was spot on.
The Sony I have is a bit newer than the Denon and also 7.2 Atmos amp, so it might have a little more decoding horsepower that might just tip the balance in those busy moments?
I mean, it shouldn’t. Your Denon is also advertised as TrueHD, so it might be worth seeing if there’s a firmware update for it that might fix it for you? I hope so.
Chime in here, Shield TV 2017 - Sony Z9D Tv - Samsung Q90R Soundbar ( 7.1/Atmos/DTS-X… bar plays all of them)
Atmos plays flawless with the Amazon Prime app on the Shield… so, Yes there is definitely an issue with Dolby Atmos & 7.1 audio stutter with the Plex app on the Shield. It’s not your setup, it’s the apk. Not sure if it’s PMS or the PMP app, but it needs to be looked into and figure out why it’s affecting the Shield. All of this started happening with the Plex app updates months ago. They changed something.
Like yourself, Plex passthrough works fine on my other devices. Zero Atmos or 7.1 stuttering. Only has this issue with the Shield.
