I run PMS on Ubuntu. I played the entire Akira 4K UHD BD remux without failure using the Plex app on the Shield via Direct Play.
But this is the server mac forum? LOL
I’m not sure why it’s failing on multiple Mac machines for me, but it’s only this title causing me issues. Again, everything else plays perfectly.
Finally fired up my projector and using my 2019 Shield Pro (with AI upscaling on even), the sample plays fine on my end. Receiver shows 96 kHz as well.
(I should also note to both @ionblue & @Achilles - I’m transferring to my Plex server at 117 MB/s from another machine while I’m playing this My Fair Lady sample right now and it’s been flawless). So I’m not sure what’s happening with Akira on my end. That screenshot below only shows the upload at 672k/s … that’s because of course, the file finished playing by the time I took the screenshot LOL. It peaked around 6 MB/s while playing, but it worked anyway. Tried My Fair Lady multiple times, it’s fine.
Hey, just checking in, any updates about this?
I am also having these issues, has there been any progress developing the fix?
I still have this issue, would love to test the fix. I also get the problem playing Nine Inch Nails Ghosts I-IV which is also 192/24.
I am having this issue also with the mkv of Akira with TrueHD Japanese. The workaround is to use VLC for Android on the shield, so it is definately a Plex Server issue.
Also Plex does not play Dolby Vision mkv’s correctly for me, but this is another issue.
//edit: KODI can play the mkv with TrueHD and Passthrough enabled. So for those exceptions i have to use KODI, for everything else Plex will do i hope.
Haven’t had the time to test as I only saw this as I was running out the door this morning. Saw the update on my 2017 Shield (experience 8.03 I think?). Had note about fixing 96/192khz audio issue. Haven’t had chance to check on my 2019 Shield. Maybe this is the fix?
What version of the app are you post-patch? I didn’t see any update on my 2017 shield, but verified the bug still exists
Hello Community,
I want to share my challenge with Direct Playing a MakeMKV Blu-ray rip of “Depeche Mode: Spirits in the Forest (2019) (Live)”
Problem:
When Direct Playing from my Nvidia Shield (2015) it stutters constantly.
Regression 0:
I have tried 12 different settings in Handbrake to lower the Bitrate, ranging from Constant Quality 17 to 25 and Average Bitrate from 18000 to 12000. When Direct Playing every version stutters constantly.
Regression 1:
When Direct Playing the original MakeMKV Blu-ray rip on my Philips Android TV it plays fine. Required bandwith topped at 41,667 kbps.
Regression 2:
When Direct Playing an alternative version of the Original Rip where soundtrack has been removed via MKVToolnix from my Nvidia Shield (2015) it plays fine, obviously without sound
Suspicion:
With above 4 scenarios, I tempt to softly ruling out network bottlenecks
Problem lies with Nvidia Shield and the sound, perhaps something with the 96000 Hz
Will read more about Nvidia Experience 8.0.3.

Hello guys,
Issues for me on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 were finally fixed by installing the recently released Hotfix by Nvidia:
After installing it, Akira runns smoothly on the new player
I’ll give it a shot later today. Does it fix 96khz files as well?
The hotfix has fixed all my audio issues.
didn’t tried those, I will test later.
However official nvidia changelog states:
Support for 96kHz / 192kHz Passthrough
Nvidia still needs to work out 96/192kHz for DTS-HD Master Audio. The hotfix solves the issues for Dolby TrueHD.
I second this. Akira is working flawlessly through Plex now.
Sorry for the late response- all I seem to do lately is work (which I’m not complaining about, but some downtime is finally here and it’s finally nice).
THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH.
Now if nVidia can solve the 96/ 192 kHz DTS-HD Master Audio for my friends who are having issues in this forum and others I know with that lasting issue, we’re in the clear!!
I wish they specified passthrough was working correctly for Dolby and made sure they were transparent about that. The problem with how they wrote it leaves the assumption that DTS 96/192 kHz passthrough is working, which isn’t sadly.
It works with Kodi and Gallery player, just not with exoplayer. I have provided them multiple samples and we should see this resolved soon.
You don’t get skipping on Akira? I finally got Experience 8.2.0 today and while video no longer skips/freezes the audio instead will stutter and skip. I’m on a 2017 shield, which device are you using?
I know this is an older thread (not sure if there is an up to date thread) but I just want to throw in that I have the same issue with 96.0 kHz audio in movies. I seem to have this in movies I buy from Vinegar Syndrome. A lot of their movies use DTS-HD MA Stereo 96.0 kHz and they all cause stuttering through Plex on Shield. As of today, it still does this.
Sorry for the late response. All my 192kHz issues are fixed. Now DTS-HD is a different issue I believe but I don’t have enough titles to test.
Yeah as I wrote in the last post, I’m not able to speak for DTS-HD titles.
We did test a short DTS-HD clip of ‘My Fair Lady’ between a few of us and I wasn’t able to re-produce the issue after the 192kHz TrueHD fix was pushed to everybody. But in terms of testing a longer clip, that’s something I can’t evaluate at this time unfortunately.
