Dolby Video Problem

We recently added the new Roku Ultra 2024 version. It’s Dolby Vision & Atmos capable, but the server transcodes Dolby movies and then halts for lack of processing ability. (I have one almost done optimizing that I started yesterday.)

It seems to me that transcoding wouldn’t be necessary. I’m wondering if the server hasn’t identified the client’s capabilities. That’s WAG, though.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I tried again so I could recall the error message. Here’s what it says: “Playback Error; Your connection to the server was not fast enough to stream this video. Check your network or try a lower quality.”

So… How fast of a network connection do I need? We have WiFi 6 for both the router and the new Roku. The server has gigabit Ethernet to the router with Cat 6 cables. The Roku reports 311 Mbps with “excellent” signal strength.

What do I need to do to get a sufficiently fast connection to the server? I tried running Cat 6 cable from the Roku to the same switch as the server and there was no improvement.

The optimized version run okay, except it’s down scaled to 1080p.

This problem seems to have resolved itself. The new Roku started playing Dolby Vision files without directly without transcoding. I’m guessing the server needed some time to recognize the capabilities of the new client.
