Thank you PLEX, I just noticed today that this feature is now implemented
I did however notice 1 bug on the Android implementation, and it would be good if collections would only be inline if they had more than 1 movie in them.
Right now, any collection that may only have 1 movie in it, appears in the main grid as both the collection and the actual movie itself.
Android Bug
Steps
Open Android app.
Navigate to Movies section.
Drag finger down on the right side of the screen and scroll to a letter say J.
The problem is that the screen doesnāt actually jump to J but rather somewhere around H (at least with my collection).
I assume this has to do with the additional collection items in the grid that offset the scrolled-to position.
FYI: This issue doesnāt happen in the web client.
Original Post
I like the idea of collections, but I donāt like how they can only be used for filtering.
I believe that collections could really shine if they were put inline with movies.
Basically, if a collection contains only 1 movie, then just show the 1 movie.
However, if a collection contains multiple movies, then show the collection inline with the other movies/collections.
This could even be turned on/off via a filtering option. Something along the lines of an icon in the top next to the shuffle icon.
See the Alien and American Pie collections in my below screen mockup.
I just used some random google image search for the icon⦠You guys are better at that stuff than me

That thread is one of 4 that are in the list of top requests. I think Plex has (unofficially) hinted that theyāre looking at better ways to do collections, but they donāt discuss their plans or timelines. Personally I think their Music libraries are in greater need of updating, but thatās just me. I donāt use it for movies much.

Thanks for the insight.
For me, I donāt use the music aspect at all so Iām bias as well.
For anyone interested, I spent a little time and pulled all of the posts related to āCollectionsā (that I could find) into sort of a summary post with counts. Its pretty interesting to see how many posts there were on the same idea and how popular a lot of them were. Just goes to show how many people are interested in this feature and also on how little attention it seems to be getting from the development team :-/ Maybe by pulling together some stats we might be able to encourage some actual progress?
Thanks PLEX, I just noticed that this feature is implemented in the web and Android clients
