Hi guys, it seems I can’t solve this trouble. I deleted my entire library of more than 1000 movies to try to solve this, but it seems to be unsolvable.
I have double language genre tags in my library, and the reason is that plex in some cases download the metadata about genre in my language (Italian) and in the most of the cases in English. Now, I don’t care which language it take, the important think to me is that when I want to filter, for example Animation, I’d like to see ALL the animation movies in that result. That’s not possible cause Plex have serious personality problem. I thought that in the old library I had this kind of problem because I edited the library preferences in time, and for that reason it downloaded different metadata, but now that I create a new fresh one, I don’t really understand why it behave like this.
Also (since I found an old topic about this), I searched on XML files of one movie in “Action” and one in “Azione” and found something like this in both: "guid=“com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt0187393?lang=it”
(plus, I have all “Themoviedb” in preferences, so it’s quite weird that it takes metadata from imdb)
Then, I searched the movie that have the Italian genre tags on imdb website, and found (of course) that it have the genre tags in english.
So that’s something that I’m missing, cause this is have no sense at all.
Thank you, but I still don’t understand why Plex choose a different language, with no reason…The english metadata is available, so why not to pick that one?
No editing in options, all movies scanned in a single scan…so it seems to be a random choice to me…there should be a reason…
And by the way, totally agreed with the feature. Don’t understand why is working like it, actually.
Just to add some information about this weird behaviour.
“Il patriota”, The Patriot (original title) going to the website imdb (that’s where plex agent takes metadata) it says: Action, Drama, History
In my server it says: Dramma, Storia
In genre tag “azione” is the only movie there. The others with this tag are in “Actions”.
Of course Il patriota appears also in genre “Dramma” and “Storia”.
The movies were all been scanned with the same preferences which are:
Agent: Plex movie
others below: Themoviedb
During my test today I discovered that if I set Themoviedb as first agent instead of Plex movie (which is not reccomended by Plex, and with reason, since it doesn’t work properly…some movies unmatched even with the right title), I will obtain all genre tags in “Italian” and the lesser in English. Just the opposite of Plex movie agent, actually.
