as my video library contains films in several languages (mostly French and English), it’s a bit annoying to have to filter twice in different language to search a Genre: for instance, when looking for Fantastic, I have to look both to Fantastic and to Fantastique.
A native matching done server-side would enhance the experience with all the non English users that, therefore will own movies in several languages.
Currently if you have localization enabled you might end up with movie data not being available in your language. Instead it gets the english version. Unfortunately this ends up with you having multiple categories of the same kind, but named differently.
For instance i both have “Sci-fi” and “Science Fiction” as categories, although they are the same thing!
In general i have all categories twice as my library grows!
Would be nice if you could merge categories together, as well as apply a future rule for future movies which cant be matched with a localized version, so they still end up in the same category regardless.

It depends of the agent used to grab metadata. Using the Plex movies agent, it seems to use IMDB as first source and i don’t notice any translation for genre.
But when using the TMDB agent, the language define for the library will force to get a translate genre (at least for a french library).
The new plex movie agent seems amazing in term of matching or performance but still have this “limitation” and won’t provide localize Genre
