Downgrading from 1.18.x to last 1.17.x possible?

Server Version#: 1.18.0.1846
Player Version#:

Tonight I upgraded from the last beta 1.17.x version to the latest beta 1.18.0.1846. As others in other threads have noted there are significant issues with live TV. It’s a bummer but it happens, being beta build and all.
No worries I thought. I’ll just revert to the previous version. On my Synology DS418 play I attempted to install the previous version but the package interface popped up an error stating reverting was not possible.

Is there a non-destructive way to revert to the previous 1.17.x beta version after upgrading to 1.18.0.1846?

On Synology NAS systems, you can upgrade or downgrade without fear.

The software and your metadata are stored in two different locations.

  1. Uninstall the currently installed
  2. Install the desired version.

This works because the installer and support scripts look for your metadata directory dynamically.

If you delete the Plex share, your metadata (Library) will indeed be erased.

Cool. Thanks @ChuckPa!

If its a windows box remove from the windows program installer

I cannot speak to how downgrades are handled on Windows.
The only things I do with windows are: 1, Open/Close them, 2. Wash them , 3. Break them from time to time

Hello @ChuckPa
I am planning to downgrade, but I am a bit scared of losing the metadata.
Currently using Synology… can you pls elaborate on the “Plex share” you recommend not to touch? Where is it? How would it be deleted? (Just want to make sure i don’t do anything stupid)
Thanks!

To add to Trumpy’s reply,

I have PMS configured to always look for the Plex share.

I don’t delete the share when the package is uninstalled.

Upon installation:

  • If it exists, I use it wherever it’s located.
  • Only create new (wherever DSM instructs) if nothing was found.
