Download Location in New Windows App

I too want the old app store version back. This new version is a hot pile of trash. Plex, please go back to the old version.

It’s insane that i can’t change the download location.

another terrible design choice.

Count me in as another disgruntled Plex Pass customer. I made the mistake of downloading the new App and now I can’t find a way to get the old Microsoft Store app back. Most of my movies are blu-ray quality so downloading 40-50 GB movie files on my Surface Pro is ridiculous.

Anyone know how to get the old Microsoft Store version back?

If you had previously downloaded the Old Microsoft Store version, it should still be available.
Launch the Microsoft Store app,
Click on the three dots …
Click on downloads & Updates
On the left hand side click on All Owned
there in the list should be the Original Windows Store app.
On the right hand side of the app there should be the install button.

install and gain the full great app that actually works. (albeit a little bit clunks and temperamental in the syncing) but it works a dream for me with nearly 150GB of video files

Thank you!

Thanks, but it appears it is not tied to my Microsoft account as I had hoped. The machine that I need it on the most is a new PC that never had the old app and the machine that previously had the old app has since had a fresh Windows 10 reinstall so it’s not showing up in the ā€œAll Ownedā€ of either one. I guess I’m out of luck.

It’s amazing how many people want the previous version from the Windows Store. Maybe Plex will give OpenSurce a free path and someone good at these blocks will write better applications than ever before.

Did this get a solution? I just want to be able to sync some of my playlists on the desktop side. Are they still pulling the BS where the downloaded stuff goes into a user-inaccessible folder buried somewhere in the OS?

I completely agree with you. I’ve already turned multiple people considering paying away from Plex…they treat the long time users like garbage, remove features, make things as difficult to use as possible (why can’t I see where my own files get downloaded to? why can’t I import/export playlists?) and so on…the HTPC crap was the last straw for me. I bought the lifetime Pass like a sucker, but at least my story can be a warning for others.

Here we are 10 Jan 2020, The Desktop app was released in August 2019. That was 5 months ago. My question is Has the Transcoding before downloading to choice of location been implemented yet?

If not WHY NOT.

Well, new update today and I am not seeing anything pertaining to this. So either I am massively over looking it, or as usual the Plex developers cant get the basics done in 8 months.

So seriously. We were told all these fixes were coming in the near future. 8 months later we get an update that doesn’t address the download location, the inability to lock into full screen mode, the buggy and laggy UI, the inability to zoom or fill the screen without stretching, etc. I can’t figure out what the hell this update has fixed in the 8 months we have waited. Can someone explain why every app is so poorly maintained on this project? Unfortunately, as bad as the other platforms are supported, Windows is hands down the worst. Embarrassing.

Still waiting for a fix to be able to install the server and player on a drive other than C:
Please.

An update:

  • Transcoding before downloading is in development.
  • Selecting a download location has been implemented yet.

Please keep the verbal knives sheathed. We don’t avoid working on features because we enjoy angry users. I’ll see what I can do get the right people engaged re download location setting.

Another vote for this feature! I would love to move to using this app rather than the old Windows Store version.

Also, the ability to control the quality of the downloaded versions is critical to save disk space. This feature exists in the old app, but seems missing in the new one.

Not sure what this means?
Is it implemented now? or not yet implemented?
as it is fast approaching 10 months, it would be good if it has been implemented.
