Downloaded Content unable to play if “Use Old Player is On”

Plex version 7.25(1536), iOS 15.1.

When using the new download feature, regardless of download settings, if “Use Old Player” is turned on in Advanced preferences, content just sits at the full playback screen with an image of the poster. Turning off the “Use Old Player” option allows content to play as expected.

I’ve tried this with downloads set to “original media”, with various transcode download settings, and even the download format set to “maximize compatibility”.

Bump. I’m also seeing the same behavior

The reason the old player is important for me is that while traveling, I’m constantly multitasking and switching apps. The new player won’t automatically go into PIP mode. The old player does. With the new player I have to manually go into PIP mode before I switch over to another task.

Regardless - the new player won’t play any of my Downloaded media. Worked fine with Sync.

Running plex server: 1.24.5.5173
App on iPad OS: 7.24.1

From what I read the Download feature still transcodes if the downloading client can’t direct play.

I forced a transcode in attempt to get it to play with the “old” player, but it just sites there. Transcoded or Direct Play work fine with the “new” player

That’s exactly the same behavior I’m seeing

Same here.
Selfishly, I also want the native player because of spatial audio.

Same here on iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPad Pro 12,9 M1 1TB.

Went crazy when I realized that all downloaded content won’t play when I was in the plane.

Now found out that downloaded content will only play with the new player that I am not using (and will not) because of the lack of PiP mode. And that’s the way I mainly use Plex.

So please go an fix this.

Also converting for download is not working. Set it to 2Mbit 720p. Downloaded file is 720p with 6 Mbit.

Sync was working way better. So why do you remove a working feature and implement a not working one?

Then I’m as selfish as you. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

On a related note.
So although I don’t often tend to watch video on a 6.1” screen it does happen on occasions.

I should say…I would if it worked.
Download and sync was bad/slow enough.

Not withstanding the fact that having a router that doesn’t allow options for DNS rebinding means “I’m doing it wrong” until Plex fix it at their end, the official solution is buy a new router or take my mobile off Wi-Fi and eat into my valuable cellular data to use Downloads. Really?

So for any iOS user.
Infuse!!!
40 minutes to download both a 18GB 1080p HDR movie and a 15GB (28 episode) season pack in original quality. (Yes I do have relatively fast download speeds but the original files are actually stored in the cloud.)

I get that original quality is overkill on such a small screen. But it works.
Find your movie/episode/season/show. Click download and job done in a couple of minutes.

I guess overkill is also wondering if a single 1GB episode HAS actually successfully downloaded and is playable in Plex when you get around to watching it at work or on the train/plane.

And then there is spatial audio but that’s for another day, other than to say £1 a month/£8 a year.

Plex has for me created a beautiful modern UI on their clients with UNO.
It’s just such a shame that functionality wise (at least on Apple devices) they are always playing catch up.
