I’ve given a friend (free user) access to my Media Library. My account has an unlimited Plex Pass associated with it. I was under the impression that all users will gain Plex Pass features (like downloading local media on supported devices) when accessing my media library.
However, when he tries to download the media, it tells him to upgrade to Plex Pass.
Is that not the case? Or is it only some features that are shared?
I think at one point last year the download feature was available for free users of a server, but Plex recently changed it to be a requirement of the user themself, regardless of the plex pass status of the server.
One option you can do to “share” your pass, is to invite the user into your home. This can be dangerous though, as it can allow them to “swap” to any other account in the home, INCLUDING YOUR ADMIN ACCOUNT without needing to log in with your username/password. It is intended only for “home” users, as the name implies, so you better trust the person 100%.
I would recommend you just have them buy a pass, if downloading for offline use is so important to them. There are frequent sales of the lifetime pass.
