With the New Plex Experience rolling out, with all music features being forcibly shifted from the main Plex App to Plexamp. This makes it crucial to enhance Plexamp’s download capabilities. For what the Plex Pass advertises as premium experience, users need to be able to navigate their downloaded albums, tracks, and more through the search and library tabs, even when offline. Additional restrictions like playlist length and the ability to download your library seem incredibly arbitrary. While doing so won’t always be ideal, the Plex community is made up of people who are savvy enough to handle the risks without guardrails.
Moreover, tools like the Plexamp Download Copier have already shown that offline data access is (or at least was previously) quite feasible.
The community has been vocal about this need across numerous Reddit threads and Plex forum discussions. Personally, I bought the lifetime Plex Pass specifically for download support, and, truth be told, it’s been disappointing so far. Now that Plexamp is the sole avenue for enjoying music within the Plex ecosystem, these features deserve to be bumped up from the backlog.
I’d definitely like to see a better offline/download experience as well. Plexamp is awesome and has been my main music player for years now so hope they do implement more features for offline/download.
I’m not a huge fan of the one huge list like it is now. Would like to be able to sort by artist and group multiple albums under that artist (would make CarPlay navigation a lot better also).
The bigger my music library got over the years downloading my entire library became less of a realistic option so personally that hasn’t bothered me as much as I initially thought it would. So now I keep favorite albums and key playlist downloaded for long trips or no wi-fi/cellular access. Haven’t ran into a situation yet where I didn’t have enough download content for a long trip so at least downloads work fairly well on Plexamp.

YES! There are so many threads on this forum where the official line is “this is a mobile app so just use your mobile data” but not everyone lives in areas with consistent data and not everyone is using devices with mobile data available. I’d love to be able to have my ENTIRE library downloaded on my portable DAP which only has WiFi capabilities. It’d be even greater if the app auto-downloaded newly added content automatically when it’s connected via WiFi.
That’s a fair point. Though it still doesn’t address the initial download of an entire library. Also, will those downloads be removed when they expire from the smart playlist?
Then that doesn’t really work as a solution unless I set the window to, like, 10 years. To the OP’s original point, these arbitrary limits should really be lifted even if it requires library downloading be done in pieces as a scheduled process.
