On Plex for Mac, I have Downloads > Video Quality = Original but when I am on a slow Internet connection, Plex still downloads in low quality (and it is always so low as to be unwatchable). Why is this seemingly clear setting overridden?

What Plex server version(s)
What Plex for Mac version
What type of Mac is it?
What are the original file sizes and resolutions? What are the file(s) encoded video format? Can your Mac play them natively?
Where are your logs to confirm your suspicions and provide clues to a solution? Client and server logs.
Maybe if you can provide this and other information, users might want/know how to help you.
I have experienced a similar issue. With only one of my plex friends, all content (no matter the resolution) is capped to 2Mbps. All downloads from this friend are auto-converted to SD, regardless of the original resolution. (Settings are to download at original resolution. High resolution setting also tested with same result)
I do not have any of these issues with a different plex friend, leading me to suspect friend 1’s settings are not quite right.
