Hi, I’ve downloaded Plex server on my Drobo 5N, via Droboapps utility in DroboDashboard.
It installed version 3.95.2.
After initial configuration Plex told me there’s a more recent version, 1.16.0.1226, so I installed it.
Now Plex says it’s the last version (even if I do a check it says it’s ok).
But Droboapp now says there’s a more recent update, I guess it’s 3.95.2 again, as it’s number is superior.
You’re confusing Plex web client version with Plex media server version.
When you first load ‘settings’ from the Plex web home screen, you are in the ‘web client - general’ web player settings area, and it shows version 3.95.2
If you scroll in the left bar down farther to “Settings - General”, select it, you then are in ‘your server name - General’ area of Server settings. Server versions are now in the 1.16.x.x numbering.
As for Drobo versioning, sorry, I do not know current vs actual release.
I know that for many, 1.16.1.1291 is latest
Nas/other devices sometimes run behind.
Thanks for clarification JamminR, this versioning is a bit confusing.
Even more because Drobo Dashboard says there’s an update but doesn’t show anywhere the version, so it’s a blind operation.
I let Drobo update and it installed the 1.15.6.1079. And, of course, Plex says there’s an available update. :\
Is there a way to report this incongruence somewhere?
Update: I’ve found the specific Drobo Dashboard section that shows the suggested update:
Most company ‘app stores’ we install from are usually controlled by the company that runs the store. My own example experience is with a Roku - anytime a Plex for Roku update is made, the [Plex] announcement states “waiting on Roku to review and we’ll announce when it’s available”
I do have a QNAP NAS.
Though I don’t host my server on my QNAP NAS, I just looked at it’s application store and it’s slightly farther behind than Drobo - it offers 1.15.4
I’d start by asking Drobo what the process is to have them review.
If Plex works for you after update using Plex updater, you could likely ignore the Drobo store notification saying it’s out of date.
Although, Drobo may have a process or special configuration specifically for the versions they have, so be careful of that possibility.
Yes, I agree. From now on I’ll keep ignoring Drobo’s update notifications.
This company seems not putting heart anymore in its products and I’m seeing bad things and bugs not solved for months.
I’m thinking to switch to Synology in future, they have cool NAS with powerful processors and 4K hardware transcoding (very good for Plex, if they can convince me to switch to Pass).
Though I like mine, I don’t use it for many of its capabilities.
When researching, QNAP makes many models. Might make it challenging to know which to choose.
Sorry about your Drobo 5. It has been out many years though. Sounds like its been a good for you over-all.
Perhaps ask/look in NAS tagged forums here for opinions.
Good luck.
Thanks for the answer.
Drobo is still good for storage, but its ARM cpu can’t really support Plex server.
I spent some time looking on Synology website and I see several nice NAS, with hardware transcoding and very good apps support.
