Initially the app was great. I had no problems with playback whatsoever. The last couple weeks, every time I play back any video, no matter if it's transcoding or DirectPlay or direct streaming, the connection drops to my server which is hardwired to my modem and hardwired to my Xbox about every 3 to 5 minutes of video playback. I have the latest server installed on my Mac which is running the latest version of my OS. I'm not having any issues on my iPhone or android devices connecting to the server or playing back content. This is purely on the Xbox 360 app. Any suggestions on why playback or connection to the server keeps dropping every 3 to 5 minutes of video playback?
I'm NOT getting the server is unreachable message. I'm getting the "plex has lost connection to your server please make sure its on" message. When I hit "try again" it connects and playback again but only for 3 to 5 minutes before buffering and prompting the same issue.
I am having the same problem with the xbox 360 playback being the issue, and other apps working fine.
I have seen a lot of posts about this beta release of the 360 app being buggy. I am fine with the bugs but it would be nice to get confirmation from the Plex dev team that this is in fact a known issue so we aren't wasting our time troubleshooting.
strange thing is when I first downloaded the app and for the first couple weeks playback was fine I had no issues could find my server not a problem the only time it dropped as when my computer went to sleep. This is just been happening lately
I was having the same problem but the fix for me was to stop using the wifi usb adapter and switched to Ethernet. I haven't seen the problem in a couple of weeks now.
Everything is hard wired -- still the same issue - after about 3 - 5 minutes of playback the xbox 360 (or the server) encounters an error and playback stops.
this is totally counter intuitive but when I unplug the ethernet from the Xbox and turned on the wifi on my Mac where the server is located - now it’s no problem - the Xbox can find the server and plays back properly without dropping the connection. this makes no sense at all to me you would figure logically that a hard wired connection from your computer to the modem to the Xbox would be actually better than over wifi. I must be missing something and these forums suck there’s no solutions there is no support
I can’t believe I pay 4.99 a month just to watch there’s been an error communicating with your server message come up every three minutes on the Xbox. I have apps for android iOS and I’ve use the desktop version and they are all flawless. Little to no issues at all. The Xbox 360 is just getting no love at all from the developers, I haven’t even seen anybody officially from Plex post anything on a forum. There are literally no Solutions here. Everyone just posts problems some people find a fix, some people find a fix and don’t even tell others how they fixed it, but still no official word on why everyone’s having such problems with the 360 app
problem has been fixed due to server update just released, and the Xbox 360 app update. This seems to have fixed my problem of my server dropping connection to the Xbox 360. So far playback has been consistent no dropped connections very happy
