DS218Play Plex support

I have connection issues on Plex and loading times are slow for SD quality videos. My Synology drive doesn’t load. UPnP and DLNA setups work but not with Plex.

I just bought a Synology 218Play for Plex following the great experience I had with the DS216Play. However I was really disappointed when I realised that Plex is still not officially supported albeit all this time the alpha/beta was released (following this: ARMv8 platform alpha testing - Synology and QNAP).

Server Version#: 1.13.6.176-dd1845234
Player Version#: Latest (Web client, Android app)

Apologies, didn’t mean to be rude. I was simply disappointed that a ‘Play’ branded NAS does not fully support Plex – mostly Synology’s fault.

However Plex is not fully supported on that model or other models that use that CPU. I had to install it manually as it’s not available on the Synology package installer.

By not loading I meant the NAS is not always found on Plex after the Plex Media Server is installed on it.

Settings are not available from Plex server side.
The router settings are fine as I’ve had the DS216Play before with no issues at all.

Thanks for this. Will try out your suggestions.

Note that the Plex Downloads section does not offer any versions for the DS218Play. In fact I only found it here (ARMv8 platform alpha testing - Synology and QNAP) when searching on Google and Plex’s forums. In fact the one in the link is not updated to the latest version.

Try a newer build here: Much faster (hopefully), smaller (mostly) and better PMS builds preview (1.14.0.391-7623e9224)

Note it’s still not the latest version in general, but latest preview you can find for ARMv8.
