DS3717xs Very High Memory usage on Synology NAS

Hi,

I have been running Plex on this NAS for around 18 months and memory usage has been fairly consistent (under 20% when Plex was running) until the past few updates, now even when nothing is being played the memory usage is staying around 80-90% and sometimes more after Plex has been running for a few hours, its causing buffering on some streams and is chewing up all the memory so that other apps on the NAS are struggling to run efficiently.

Server is a DS3617xs with 16GB Ram and a Quad Core Intel Xeon and I have never had an issue with anything other than Plex running and even then only in the past few months.

I have attached the server logs and below is a video of how the memory drops significantly when I Turn off the Plex app in the Package Center.

If anyone can gleam any information from the logs of suggest anything I can do to remedy this I would be very grateful.

Server Version#: 1.15.8.1163
Player Version#: not applicable

Thank you for the quick reply.

As instructed I have:

Disabled the DLNA server
Rebooted the NAS
Optimised the database (x2)
Cleaned the Bundles
Emptied the trash on all Libraries.

I will keep an eye on it over the next couple of days, its never lasted 24 hours without the Memory usage going high so should be able to report back within a couple of days.
Thanks!

Hi,

Just to update you that this seems to have solved the problem, the server has been running since I posted the last message, DLNA seems to be causing the memory leak and disabling it brings the memory use back to normal.

So thank you for your help and I hope you can pass the issue on to the developers so they know where to look now.

thanks!

No problem, I will test when I am back at home after work

Hi,

It seems to make no difference whether the TV is set for DLNA or not, the settings on the TV arent overly clear with regards to DLNA, whether DLNA is being used or not the memory use creeps up steadily until it hits about 96%

Disabled it again (on server) and memory usage reduced, restarted Plex and it went back down to about 14% and remained under 20% when using Plex again.

In the Synology, I opened the Resource Monitor // Task Manager // Plex Media Server, and the Plex DLNA task is taking about 90% of available memory (8GB RAM). As soon as I stopped the Plex DLNA (per recommendation above), the Plex Media Server task memory dropped to 393MB from @7.5GB. I then performed the “Optimize Database” 2x, “Clean Bundles” 2x, and “Empty Trash” 1x, then re-enabled Plex DLNA. The new memory count is 435.3MB.

Also, this morning, I just installed the latest Plex server 1.16.2.1297, so I’ll keep an eye on Plex DLNA.

And I did notice that the more that I browsed directories from my TV, the more the RAM count increased for the Plex DLNA task. I’ll track this over the next week and really exercise the DLNA to see if that has an impact on the RAM.
