DS420+ vs DS920+

Hi

I want to buy a 4-bay Synology NAS and don’t know if I should get the DS420+ or the DS920+

Basically the difference is a 2-core Celeron with 2 GB Ram vs. a 4-core Celeron with 4 GB Ram.

So my question is basically if PLEX can utilize the 4 cores or is it limited to single-core use because accorting the CPU money the single-core performance of both CPUs is roughly the same.

4 cores. It will use it all:

  1. Managing PMS & the UI & Reading the files
  2. Transcoding the audio = approx 2 cores
  3. Part of another to pack it up and send out.

On a dual core, it’s hard pressed to keep everything satisfied
