DS920+ not in authorized devices, DS415 play working fine

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3711-b509cc236
Player Version#:
I have an older DS415Play, running Plex Media Server without issue. It’s running out of space, so I bought a new DS920+ with 4x10TB drives. I installed PMS on the 920, and, at first, I could see the 920, but it wouldn’t populate the library. I rebooted the 920, followed the guidance to stop all Synology Plex services, log out of plex.tv, rename preferences.xml to .old on both the 415 and the 920. I removed both from the Authorized servers list, and when I start running Plex again, the 415 is re-discovered, but not the 920.

I’ve tried different browsers from my Mac…I’ve tried different computers. Could use some advice here. Maybe create a new account?

Ultimately, I just want to use the 920 and gift the 415Play to my son.

Jeff

are you accessing the Synos through the embedded version of Plex Web using the Synos’ IP address?
http://[Syno IP address]:32400/web

No need for a separate account.

Correct, I am. I’ve launched from the icon/link on the DS920+ homepage, as well as directly to IP address:32400/web.

I’m stumped.

Jeff

One additional data point - I used an external hard drive to back up all my movies, then used same HD to copy movies to new DS920+. Is there a file in my library that may be screwing things up?

There is either a configuration error with the DHCP server which assigns your DS920+ its IP address or you have a loose/damaged ethernet cable .

Its network configuration keeps resetting every few seconds. This makes the network unavailable / unreachable . PMS won’t work until it sees a stable network environment.

Great catch! I’ve replaced the ethernet cable and moved to the other NIC. I have what appears to be a solid connection. Should things start working? or would I be better served by stopping Plex on both the 415Play and 920+, and log out of my Plex.tv account, then rename preferences.xml?

Jeff

Restart the Syno.
Verify it has proper connectivity unto itself.
Then check out PMS.

No real progress. I stopped PMS on both NAS, logged out of plex.tv, renamed preferences.xml, then restarted everything. The 415Play had to be reclaimed, but I get the You Must Be Lost page when accessing from the 920+. I accessed with Synology-IP:32400/web

Jeff

First get the NAS stable.

That’s priority one.

Manually make a ZIP of the logs by navigating to the Logs directory in the Plex share. Right-click -> Compress to Logs.zip

attach that Zip

Here’s the most current logs.zip from the 920.(File removed)

Thank you.

I found it.

Got so close. Followed these instructions, started PMS. Opened the web interface and it looked like the server was found and I was starting to claim it. Got past the ad for Plex Pass, to the Library page, clicked on Movies, couldn’t click Next, so I clicked Cancel and it died. I can now see the 920 in Authorized Devices, but it’s unreachable.

I’m completely fine with uninstalling, then deleting the Plex directory. Or, I can repeat this procedure, and try to skip past the library part.

I can’t thank you enough for all your help, support and most importantly your patience.

Jeff

Don’t know why, but PMS stopped on the 920…restarted and investigating.

Jeff

OK, things look so much better than when I woke up. It appears PMS is still running and happy. It’s scanning my library and that looks good to go.

Really can’t thank y’all enough.

Jeff
