Have scoured the forums to ensure this isn’t a duplicate post so apologies in advance if it is. Made the migration over to DSM 7 like most believing that I followed the instructions correctly. On the migration completing, had to scratch with Plex by adding libraries again, which wasn’t an issue. Plex is running fine other than it won’t stream at full 1080, though not sure that’s a DSM 7 issue.
However, the real issue I’m running into is that I can’t find my media folder. When adding a library in Plex, the path for it still exists and the old Plex folder is still in Synology Control Panel’s Shared Folder section (see screenshot below). However, nowhere in File Station can I find my media folders. I’d migrate them over to PlexMediaServer but again, can’t find them anywhere. Have included screenshots to show the issue.
I get the sense that the issue might stem from not uninstalling the prior version of Plex before installing DSM 7 but not entirely sure. Would appreciate any and all help here. Thanks
Thanks for the quick response, Chuck. All the permissions have been set as noted by the migration post, including custom for PlexMediaServer. Just to be safe, I’ve done the same for the “Plex” folder that continues to exist on the backend but not in File Station. The issue continues to persist where the all the media continues to exist on the drive but there’s nowhere for me to access it through File Station. I’ve tried checking the properties of each folder to try and find it by folder size but no luck so far.
This concerns me. Do you have metadata (Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server ) still residing in the old, and now unused, Plex shared folder?
The only things we use in DSM 7 are:
User: PlexMediaServer
Folder: PlexMediaServer.
I access the “Plex” shared folder only once, during migration.
If you have applied permissions to the shared folders, but the media itself cannot be seen, you must then force permissions to be applied to all sub folders and files in each shared folder
The (Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server) file path isn’t visible to me since I can’t access the old Plex folder through File Station and it’s only visible through Control Panel.
Have also forced permissions onto both the new PlexMediaServer folder and the old Plex folder in Control Panel but still no luck.
Control Panel - Shared Folders - EDIT the share - Permission tab -----
This is how your give your username permission to see things in File Station.
Linux (what DSM is based on) does not freely grant access to everything. All access must be expressly granted on a case-by-case / thing-by-thing basis.
Have followed those instructions, Chuck, yet running into the visibility issue still. Permissions have been forced for both the old Plex folder and new PlexMediaServer one.
Have includes some screenshots to show the backend permission setup and also the Control Panel overview of both the old Plex and new PlexMediaServer folder. Would it be helpful if I provided logs? If so, how would I go about that?
