Hi - First off, I am new to this forum so please be patient with me!
I have been using Plex pretty successfully until i upgraded my Synology NAS to DSM 7 (specifically version7.0.1-422.18). I am using Plex Version 1.24.5.5173.
When I try to scan for media nothing is found. I don’t know what i am doing incorrectly.
I take it your media was already loaded into the library
When expanded my USB share drive for a new, bigger one I had to go back into plex and add the library files again.
The meta data of the programmes stayed ok but I had to let plex know they were there even though the drive was a clone of the last one I.e same pathways for folders
Yes I know that thanks- I have plex on a synology nas too but my pc acts as the controller for all the permissions and to modify my library etc
Chucks post below is where I was going to ask you to go next - looks like you have a lot of folders where it is looking too might be confusing your plex app.
Keep it simple ie Blu rays - volume 1 - shared - Blu ray movies
that sort of thing then when the software searches its one folder for one type of media
Windows can’t set Synology ACLs. Control Panel → Shared folders -OR- FileStation → Properties can.
It’s possible for windows to ‘break’ the permissions but the permissions set on the shared folder itself are actually the ones in control unless further restricted
It is normal to see the “@folders.” They are hidden by File Station, but visible when adding a folder to a library in Plex Media Server.
If you scroll down, you should see media and be able to drill down to Movies, TV Shows, etc.
If you cannot see media or the subfolders, the most likely cause is an issue with access permissions.
Whether or not you can see the media folder in Plex, set the permissions for the media folder and all subfolders & files. See DSM 7 - Set permissions for Shared Folders in the article Chuck linked (it is a direct link to that section). Follow the steps even if File Station already shows PlexMediaServer has access. This ensures correct permissions are set for all subfolders & files (so you don’t have to check all of them).
We all control Plex via the web browser on our PC. I’m not getting the significance of “control my Plex from my PC” if the server is hosted on Synology.
Seeing the @ folders is normal (alphabetic sorting)
Here I am adding an “Animated” movies type library
