hi everybody
I got problems with the communication of SONOS with Plex after the upgrade to Synology DSM 7.
I learned that I should use the NTLM-authentication to make possible that SONOS and Plex can communicate.
After the setting of the NTLM-authentication in the Control Panel of my NAS the SONOS app could indeed communicate with Plex and I could choose the music from my music library in Plex.
But…
Some minutes later I saw that my ordinary music library, in which I choose music directly from my SONOS app ( I also use Plex because my music library is too big), was not seen by my (android) SONOS app.
With a little help from the SONOS support desk I re-installed my (desktop) Sonos app (my Android sonos app did not succeed in reinstalling my music library) and with this App I could reinstall my ordinary music library as a source for SONOS. It succeeded by checking minimum SMB-service to SMB1 and checking NTLM-authentification.
And then, I also retried to start some songs in my Plex library. Just to be sure that everything works fine again. At the start of a song The connection with Plex was immediately broken.
Does someone know how I can solve this new problem?
Thank you very much for an answer that helps.
Frank
Hi Trumpy81
Thank you for your answer and suggestions!
I did everything exactly in the way you wrote and after that I tried to start some music in my Plex - folder and immediately again the connection between the SONOS app and Plex was broken.
I hope there is someone who knows the solution, maybe you.
Many Greetings
Frank
I added the IP address of my LAN and I just a minute ago stopped the plex server and restarted it and then again the connection with was broken when I started a song.
Greetings
Frank
Sonos can connect directly to NAS shares using SMBv1 and NTLMv1. When Sonos connects directly to a share using SMBv1, Plex is not involved. SMBv1 and NTLMv1 are very old and have security issues, so this is generally discouraged. [2021-12-08: NOTE: Sonos S2 systems with the latest firmware can now connect to SMBv2 and SMBv3 servers.]
hello Trumpy81
I’ve read both messages, thank you.
There has come another problem: Synology tells me that my WD-harddisks have been declared to be incompatible and I now have the serious risk to crash my disks.
So I’ll first seek new harddisks, install them and copy my files to it.
Then I’ll take a precise look at your suggestions and those of @Volts and try to repair things.
After two-three weeks I tell you whetther the problem is solved.
Thank you for your help.
Frank
helloTrumpy81 and others
After two weeks that Plex was not accessible from SONOS I reinstalled Plex, (first I removed totally the existing installation) and made a correct setting for all the permissions).
Then again SONOS could see my music library and I started a song.
But an old problem came back: the connection between SONOS and PLEX was broken immediately after starting the song.
Do you know what is wrong and can you see something in the logfiles? Plex Media Server Logs_2021-12-08_08-35-16.zip (6.6 MB)
Thank you very much for an helping answer.

hello, me again
I checked in my Fritz!box router the NAT looping for internettraffic from outside (=SONOS).
It seemed to work.
Nope.
But
After an hour I discovered that my Plex app on my Android Phone can playback music on my Sonos system and when that’s going on I can manage volume via my SONOS app. So the other way around works, but not the way I searched: I can choose music via SONOS in the Plex database.
So you can ask: why bother if this works? The answer I like to choose my music in the music library of SONOS and use the same SONOS app to choose music in the extended Plex library. That seems to me a lot easier.
Is there any one who knows the answer how to prevent that the connection between SONOS app and Plex will be broken immediately after I choose music in the Plex library? I’d like to read the answer.
Thanks a lot.
Frank
