Plex Media Server keeps stopping after new update

Since installing the new version 1.21.4.4079 having problems with PMS service stopping about every hour. I have to login to Synology NAS package center and click ‘Run’ to start the service back up.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Server Version#: Version 1.21.4.4079
Player Version#: Version 4.51.3

I tried shutting down the Synology and bringing back up but still having the same issues.

DEBUG logs ZIP file please ?

Thanks for these logs.

I see PMS is sometimes crashing (don’t like that)
Sometimes it’s being commanded to shutdown .

Are you shutting it down or is DSM ?

Do the DSM logs have anything ?

Silly question – when’s the last you restarted the Syno? (sometimes it needs it)

We can get more serious debugging if we need to – we’ll get this resolved)

I’m not shutting down PMS. It just stops about every hour. I’ve had Plex for over 3 years and this is first time having any issues. I just applied the new update yesterday to 1.21.4.4079

I powered down the Synology NAS earlier today and thought that might fix it but it continues to stop about every hour. It actually just stopped again as I’m typing this message so I’m about to restart it again from package center in Synology

I don’t see anything in DSM logs

Would you please turn VERBOSE logging OFF again?
It is actually a big hindrance.

  1. 2 minutes of elapsed time maximum vs 20 minumum
  2. No need to see every mouse action
  3. No need to see every network packet from devices.
  4. We’re not debugging this type issue.

After turning it off – Don’t forget to SAVE (at the bottom)

Recreate / recapture and then attach again for me ?

I only turned it on briefly just before it crashed again. I turned it off right after I sent those logs…

Thanks. I now got what I need.

The next step is to grab the crash dump file and hand-carry to engineering (rather than waiting for the reports to get to them).

  1. Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced.
  2. Turn OFF - Crash reporting. – Save
  3. Now, when it fails, it will keep the crash dump file local.
  4. You’ll need to go grab it. put it in a zip, and, with the logs, attach for me.

Plex / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server / Crash Reports / <Plex Version> / PLEX MEDIA SERVER

This is where you’ll find the DMP files.

When you get that for me, I can load in the debugger here and trace back into the general area of the failure. that let’s me know which engineer to go bother

Thanks! It should fail again within the next hour.

Thanks for the dump file.

I think I have it pointed to what’s happing.
I’m going to forward this to the engineer to check.

There is no harm in uninstalling this problematic version and backing down to a version which is stable for you.

The problem does appear to be with the new TV scanner but I’m not 100% certain.
I see it scanning TV then crash.
