I am not getting any metadata for the first two episodes of DTF St Louis. I tried several things and nothing works. There are no other agents besides Plex Series which doesn’t find any metadata. Has anyone had any success with this series?
Thanks so much. Missed the setting under episode ordering. I’ll remember that for the next time a show is missing metadata.
Actually TMDB does have the correct external IDs for TVDB. The problem is that there are 2 TVDB GUIDs in the Plex back end. Probably got renumbered at TVDB. Trouble is Plex is using the first GUID which i think is pointing to a non-existent show.
This is what I’m seeing in my test library
Guid id=“tvdb://422782”
Guid id=“tvdb://468739”
This has been happening way too much and Plex is very slow to fix it.
Ahh , thanks! Maybe another one of the many shows that got deleted and then recreated due some apparent data corruption at tvdb.
Just bumping to note it’s been about a month and this problem is not resolved (users still need to manually specify TheMovieDB Aired Order to get metadata).
It’s been more than a month, and the show still has no episodic metadata without manual intervention.
I noticed this a while ago also. It’s yet again caused by plex not cleaning up updated external ids…
… this was changed on tmdb back in early feb and plex just added the second one to the list without removing tvdb://422782 and as that is the top most on the list which is returned from the plex api it fails.
The list of shows with dup ids is steadily growing, hopefully it will eventually get so bad that plex will be forced to prioritise resources into fixing it.
If you use tmdb episode ordering it will work. TVDB will never work until plex clean it up.
It would’ve been much easier if the mods at TVDB had followed their own f… rules and kept the records with lower IDs when dealing with dupes. If plex cared about that, I guess it would’ve been fixed a long time ago; it’s not rocket science to make the data crawler check for the changes at 3rd-party sources you rely on.
TVDB has always been a bit like the wild west. However, things have been worse over the past few months with many shows having duplicates, here is just a few examples …
Blood of Zeus
The Nine Lives of Chloe King
I’ll Be Gone in the Dark
A Teacher
… and this thread over on reddit seems to say stuff is going on behind the scenes including the sale of TVDB.
Plex cannot control what happens on these providers, however they can improve their code to better handle how they scrape and update their own back-end.
At the end of the day, IMO, once they decided to consolidate metadata they then own what they have consolidated. Its NOT a provider problem at that point, its a plex problem. The whole consolidation is flawed and a never ending game of whack-a-mole.
