The Denon was playing the DTS not the ATV?
The ATV is capable in terms of hardware and because Firecore coded their own media player it will do pass through.
PlexConnect does not install anything on the ATV so does not need a jailbreak to work, can be used with the ATV3 and firmware updates should not generally break it; as there is no install then it has to use the native media player coded into the firmware.
Apple are very unlikely to support DTS as it is not in the MP4 container spec - why would Apple support stuff that in theory should never get played on their hardware?
