Dts Audio Problem

Salve,
ho Plex for LG installato su 2 TV:

Hi,
I have Plex for LG installed on 2 TVs:

  • on LG 32 inch Plex indicates platform 4.9.0
  • on LG 43 inch 7.2.0 platform.

The problem I encounter is that I have a movie with DTS 5.1 audio that doesn’t work on the 43 inch while on the 32 it works correctly.
The Plex settings look identical to me (DTS on the 43 was off by default and I enabled it).

I also checked the settings of the 2 TVs and they seem identical to me (DTS is set to Auto).

Disable it.

LG TVs 2020 and newer no longer support DTS audio.

Thank you very much, i didn’t know it.

Still regarding on this: I only use direct play, surprisingly DTS-HD (MA) transcodes properly in the app itself, whereas DTS doesn’t — this means that I have to use another player for DTS only. Is there any way to make the client transcode DTS just as fine as it does for DTS-HD?

Running on LG G16 (2021 model).

In the Plex LG app:

  • Enable both Allow Direct Play and Allow Direct Stream
  • Deselect DTS/DCA audio

DTS audio will then be transcoded by Plex Media Server to a supported format.

I have that. It works when audio is DTS-HD only. If audio is just “simple” DTS it’ll either play with no sound (if DTS is enabled in the settings) or will give the not enough cpu power error (if disabled in settings) instead of transcoding.

Expected, since the TV does not support DTS.

Do you have video transcoding disabled on your server?
Settings → Transcoder → Disable video stream transcoding

Does the video you are playing have subtitles enabled? If so, play it with subtitles turned off.

@FordGuy61 That’s correct. If subs are disabled it works, however, I need the subs and my server only supports direct play (it’s a raspberry pi). How can I have both DTS with subs working properly?

You are running into the limitations of Plex’s Smart TV clients (webOS, Tizen, etc). When audio is transcoding, enabling any type of subtitle forces a video transcode. A Raspberry Pi is not strong enough to transcode video in real time. Hence, the buffering.

Option: Use a different Plex client

Use a different client, such as a Nvidia Shield Pro, Amazon FireTV Stick 4K / 4K Max, Apple TV, etc. These clients are more capable than the Smart TV clients.

Plex Android TV clients (Shield, FireStick) will direct play subtitles even if the audio is transcoding. The Shield is at the high end and will passthrough lossless audio (TrueHD Atmos) if supported by your sound system. The FireSticks are at the low end. No lossless audio passthrough, but they support 4K HDR10 & Dolby Vision (as does the Shield).

Other clients such as the AppleTV, Roku, etc have similar capabilities.
