DTS-HD MA and DTS-X are converted to DDP 2.0 on Sonos Arc/Nvidia Shield Pro

Hello guys,

I’m running into an annoying problem when playing back MKV files with DTS HD or DTS X audio. Server is on Windows 10, Plex server latest version and I am direct playing them through an Nvidia Shield TV Pro on my LG CX and Sonos Arc using HMDI Passthrough. No problems whatsoever playing back Atmos, but when the movie has DTS HD-MA or DTS:X I am getting DDP 2.0 output (according to Sonos app), although the Plex server says Direct Play DTS-HD/X.

Any suggestions or workarounds from the more tech savvy members? Would be highly appreciated, thanks!

The LG CX does not support passthrough for DTS audio formats. Therefore, it has to convert it to a supported format. Since the server shows direct play, the Shield is converting the audio.

Oh, that’s a bummer…

Is there a way to set Plex transcoding to DDP 5.1? Or is source file re-encoding with Handbrake the only way?

Try disabling DTS in the Shield (not Plex app) audio settings, then restart the Shield.

If that does not help, then you’ll need to transcode the audio.

Look at XMedia Recode. It can passthrough the video and transcode the audio.

Handbrake cannot passthrough video. If you use it, the video will be transcoded.

So disabling DTS in the Shield forced Plex to transcode to Multichannel PCM 5.1, which is definitely an improvement, but I find DDP crisper and it’s definitely louder.

Xmedia worked like a charm, thank you so much for your help!!
