Tv is connected to the Denon with a 2.1 HDMI cable and eARC is working.
However, when I’m playing series or movies with DTS-HD-MA, the recognition of the input format is flapping between DTS and HD. This causes sound crackling and other disturbances. The files were taken from my legally owned Blue Rays.
I have read about this issue on Reddit a lot in connection with the Nvidia Shield, but the only solution is to disable HDMI passthrough, which is not a solution. No passthrough, no DTS.
Changing the audio from HD to normal DTS stops the flapping on the receiver. But I would like to enjoy HD sound and some files do not have only DTS.
The TV is set to prioritize passthrough.
Did anyone encounter this and have a real solution? I don’t mean to be rude, but I don’t want workarounds.
If true, the TV is not involved in any “passthrough” discussion.
All the audio is stripped in the Denon and processed there → Speakers
Only the video is forwarded to the Bravia.
I have an older Onkyo TX-RZ610 where this isn’t a problem.
Shield is in Passthrough mode
Onkyo renders on the 7.1 (Polk Signature Elite + HTS 10 sub)
HDMI → LG C1 OLED
eARC is not a factor in this configuration as audio stream terminates in the Onkyo from the Shield.
It was this passage which confused. If there is no Nvidia Shield involved, then mentioning it was not necessary. it only served to confuse as we have a lot of
Researching the A95L yields:
The audio dropouts (flapping) are a known issue with the Sony
Thanks for the link, but I’m not sure if that is it. It is not dropouts, it’s crackling with HD-MA while you can see the recognized codec on the AVR change from HD to DTS every second. I can make a video that shows this once I get home.
If you are using he Plex app on the Sony Bravia > HDMI / eARC > Denon, then this is essentially your problem.
No TV on the market as yet supports any HD audio formats using the internal apps. You will need to use an external player such as a Shield in order to do that.
That being said, please make sure that your HDMI ports on the Sony are set to “Enhanced format” to ensure they support as much as possible…
TV Settings > Watching TV > Exernal Inputs > HDMI signal format.
Hi, enhanced actually made it worse, it made normal DTS not work as well. I’ve put audio out on auto instead of passthrough on the TV, not Plex, seems to work so far.
So I’m cautiously saying it’s solved. It’s such a weird thing. Auto should do the same as passthrough on this setting, as I’m getting DTS HD. So why the crackling when it’s on passthrough. Nuts
