Server Version#: Synology Version 1.14.1.5488
Player Version#: Android latest
Hi, I’m hoping a Plex employee or informed user here can help answer a couple of questions for me please.
I have the Plex Server (latest version) running on my SynologyNas. I have a Sony Android KD-55X8509C running the Android Plex Player App (latest version). Finally I use the ARC socket to send audio from the TV to a Sony STR-DH790 AV amp. This amp has recently replaced a Sony STR-DN860 which played 5.1 audio as expected.
[UPDATE - Rather than the change of my amp yesterday, this may be caused by the Oreo Android Update mentioned on another post. I also grabbed that down]
The issue I’m having is with DTS audio. I have pass-through set. I know that DTS cannot be direct streamed via this TV. Plex has always recognised this incompatibility and converted the audio to AC3 and played the 5.1 channels, displaying Dolby Digital 5.1 on the amp. With the new AMP (or Oreo update), the same message appears regarding DTS incompatibility but instead of 5.1 sound coming from the AMP it is LPCM 2.0 stereo. The other sounds formats work as expected EAC3 DD5.1 etc., the PS4 works fine, the Netflix App plays 5.1 via the ARC channel with no issues, just Plex and DTS.
I have a workaround, if I choose ‘Convert Automatically’ from the settings cog icon when a movie is playing the forced transcode results in 5.1 sound. But, this only seems selectable once a movie is playing.
Q) Is there a way to force the Plex player to transcode everything I play? I’d rather not drop the quality too much, most of my collection is 7-10Mbs. Just make sure everything transcodes.
thanks in advance
