Dummies Guide to Setting up Remote Access?

Hello All,

I know this has been covered multiple times, and have felt I’ve read hundreds on thread on this, which I imagine is a simple enough task for most people on here, but i’m really struggling to get my head round setting up Remote Access.

Currently under Remote Access my PMS says ‘NOT AVAILABLE OUTSIDE YOUR NETWORK’. I can seem to connect to it however when out away from home, but it is an ‘INDIRECT’ connection. I know it’s got something to do with the IP addresses and PORTS.

Would anyone be able to just give me a dummies guide to getting this up and running. A point-by-point checklist or something to sort it, as been trying to get this sorted for a while but not having much luck.

Thanks in advance for any help with this… much appreciated.

Rhys

We might BUT you must give us alot more information.
What we know so far.

  • You have a SHIELD.

What about modem/router/LAN/WiFi?/firewall(yes/no)/VPN?/even ISP may help.

Okay – I’ll take the challenge,
My Server says I have Remote Access – but I don’t think I have a ‘Shield’, but I could be incorrect, so I’ll need more info to answer that.
As to the other information requested:
I have a separate broadband modem and router – provided by my ISP, Because of the limitations of my printer and the Chromecast Ultra – everything is on the 2.4 band for WiFi. There is a firewall – the standard Windows firewall – I run Win10Pro, No VPN, to my knowledge. My ISP is Spectrum – formerly TWC.
I feel certain you will need more info – but I’m not sure what – so back to you.

You tagged this forum topic/post with server-nvidia-shield when you made it. If you are not running the Plex Media Server on the Nvidia Shield (<— link to what a shield is), where did you install the server? What type of computer?

So these are two separate devices both given to you by your ISP?
