Duplicate Media Folder Locations

I have all of my media on a connected USB 3.0 portable hard drive and have my Movies and TV Shows libraries pointed to folders on in. I recently purchased a NAS and duplicated the folders on the USB drive. I added those folders to my libraries as well. So I have 2 of each file in my library. I also have empty trash after every scan unchecked.

I did this on purpose with the thought that I will always have access to my library for a single contingency. For example, if I decide to remove my USB drive to take somewhere, the server will see the NAS or if my NAS go offline, it will still see the USB.

My question is, will the server auto select the correct source, like I’m expecting? Or does it default to the first one listed and all of this is overkill?

By the way, I have another contingency built in. I have 2 Nvidia shields laying around. So I have one as a backup server for TV and one as a backup for movies. Both of them are pointing to the NAS. So if my main computer goes down, then I still have access to my media, especially if I’m away from home. If my computer and NAS go down, then I guess I have bigger problems.

It doesn’t select the live source of duplicates. I have backup locations but plex can’t choose when one of them went down. It just gives playback error.

That was my experience but I would like to know if it is only me and is there anyway to save folders as a backup location so plex can choose the live one to play.
