Select library for playback

Server Version#: 1.23.4.4805 & 1.25.5.5492
Player Version#: 1.33.0.2444-a220eae4

I have all my media on two separate servers for backing up. What I can’t figure out is how to choose which of them it plays from when I search up a show. It defaults to the same one even when that’s not the one that’s local.

I assume you’re using the Plex for Windows desktop player (though version 1.33 is a bit dated – Plex has released 1.41 earlier today).

If both servers are linked to your Plex account, you should see all their libraries in the navigation sidebar. If you haven’t pinned all of them, the “remaining ones” will be listed under the More section (grouped by server).

Plex has no concept of redundant servers where it picks the best/closest one. So it’ll always play the video from the library you’ve picked.

I was just checking if there was an easy way I could change the playback server from the page for whatever show if it was already pulling it from the wrong one. I understand how to specifically browse each server’s libraries but I was looking for a backup strategy to teach my tech illiterate parents.
