Duplicating / Replicating a Plex Server?

I current have 2 setups at 2 different homes, both with large disk arrays which have real-time mirrors of my library (using rsync over the net). The issue I have is this - I’ve spent years and literally hundreds of hours editing and curating my library, specifically my Collections. I don’t want to give that up, if possible, so I’m looking for a way to replicate this to the second server.

Here’s the sticky part - as this is a vacation home that is shared with a few other families, the Plex server is signed in with a different account, so not mine. Due to this I don’t want to just copy the database over, as we need a different server owner/users. I don’t expect to keep the collections/libraries in sync after the initial replication, those small changes I can just make on both servers as I move forward.

Thoughts?

Bump? Ideas anyone?

Not something that is feasible as far as server synchronization.

You could simply use a client that is signed in to an account that can access your server (instead of the vacation server).

Well remember I don’t need to keep them in sync, just want to start them off that way as I can then keep them in sync manually - so I’m not following what you mean by signing in with my account at the vacation house, which again I can’t exactly do.

What am I missing? Any way to start the database with the existing one? I do greatly appreciate the help BTW!

Follow the: Move an Install to Another System | Plex Support
Start the vacation server up and logout/unclaim it and claim it with new account.

you can replace the existing vacation library, but you cannot merge them or transfer only the collection info.

of course replacing the existing library would lose the other plex owners library info and any existing shared history.

THANK YOU - that looks to be exactly what I need, or at least a great place to start!

That’s actually fine as the others that share the house know I’m doing this - it’s just that it’s not my PC and the owner really wants it to stay with his login, so I’m gonna try above and see. The existing data in the Plex install doesn’t matter, it can ALL be replaced with my database (as they don’t care about play tracking, etc since that’ll never fully work since this is really a standalone install).

Thanks again to both of you for your input.

Do NOT restore the Windows Registry entry when you do this on the new server. That will make Plex/clients think it’s the same server as the one at home. You need the new Plex install to regenerate a new server key. Follow the rest of the instructions though regarding copying the metadata.

Thanks for clarifying, I wouldn’t have done that as I do know better but if others find this thread in the future that’s a great thing to point out.

You guys rock
