This isn’t consistent for all shows but it will seemly randomly not record shows even though the guide shows they are scheduled to record. Earlier this week it happened on CBS with Survivor which recorded fine the week before. Tonight it is doing it with 2 CW shows that were supposed to record, Batwoman and Supergirl. But Simpsons recorded just fine at the same time. Please Advise! I like Plex but stuff like this keeps happening to my DVR and it is just so unreliable.
Are your series recording for Batwoman and Supergirl set to record “New Airings Only”, or “New and Repeat Airings”? Both the Batwoman and Supergirl episodes in your grid screenshot are showing as repeat airings (no “NEW” tag), which does appear to be correct and not an EPG data issue.
I’ve found that the record symbol on the guide grid doesn’t indicate that a particular episode is scheduled to record like you would think, but only that the episode is part of series with a recording set. IMHO it’s a weird and not really useful recording indicator. The “DVR Schedule” tab shows what episodes Plex actually thinks it is going to record.
Ah, yes they do have New and Repeat Airings turned on but I did not notice that tonight wasn’t new episodes. But it did do this last Wednesday for Survivor that was definitely a new episode. It did the same thing were is showed that red recording symbol on the guide but didn’t record. It is also set to record Repeat Airings.
The three red dots in the guide only indicate you have a recording set up for the program, checking the Recordings tab is the only way to verify that conditions are met to record. Version 1.18.8 includes a change to the logic so miss labeled shows will still get recorded.
@pl_5309 nailed it. Make sure you are looking at the “DVR Schedule” tab to see what Plex is going to record. If I’m understanding, the not recording of Batwoman and Supergirl screen snapped above was actually correct, because they were repeats you already had?
If so, my suggestion is to check the “DVR Schedule” tab daily to make sure Plex is scheduling to record what you think it should. If you think an episode should be scheduled to record but isn’t showing on the “DVR Schedue” tab, then post here what you think it is going to miss, a screenshot of your series recording pass for that show, a screenshot of your “DVR Schedule” tab, a screenshot of your “Guide” tab showing the listing that is the problem, and also post [debug level server logs (https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/). Hopefully that will allow the forum to help determine why that show isn’t scheduled to record.
OTA recording on a MacBook using SiliconDust Extend. I have scheduled to record PBS Weekend Edition every Sat. and Sun. Both show correct status flags (new, >>>) in Guide. But Sunday never showing up in Schedule and doesn’t get recorded, regardless of options set. Irritating.
That is irritating. Missing a recording or not being able to record is very frustrating. There are a number of reasons that can cause it to happen, and the forum might be able to help if you can provide more information. A screenshot of your PBS Weekend Edition series recording, screen snapshots of your guide for both the Saturday and Sunday episodes of PBS Weekend Edition (ideally with the episode information expanded), a screenshot of your “DVR Schedule” for Saturday and Sunday, and finally debug level server logs would be very helpful.
Thanks for your suggestion. I used to chase bugs during the 1980s, but now I expect that it should be sufficient to report a problem and have it attended to by the paid vendor. The DVR still consistently fails to actually display in the DVR Schedule any show programmed in the Guide - on all Sundays! Oh well.
