DVR Part 1 & Part 2 (Getting ignored)

I tried using plex DVR but it would only ever record part 1 of a show (named it part 2) but then would never record the second part.

I have recorded these shows using other software and named the files part 1 and part 2 but the plex crapper is still mapping these together.

File names (After been manually changed and recorded with other software)

Coronation Street - S59E03 - Wed Jan 03 2018 Part 1
Coronation Street - S59E03 - Wed Jan 03 2018 Part 2

We have two issues

1- DVR not recording second part (Could use time or description to workout there different)
2 - Scrapper not able to manage these and name Part 1 and Part 2… Details are on tvdb correctly and file names match.

Why can’t it default to part 1 instead of 2 ?

Several other threads discussing Coronation Street on the forum. From what I recall all has to do with the Guide data only contains the month and day of show airing, nothing about Part 1 and Part 2. Once Part 1 is recorded and added to library Plex cancels the second recording because it now sees “Coronation Street - 0103” in the library. Just going off memory regarding the other threads that all discuss this same issue.

So why would it default the first recording to part 2 ?

I have even recorded both parts with other software part 1 and part 2 (names in original post) yet it still can’t display part 1 and part 2 in the interface. It should be able to pick up the info from tvdb as there named identical and show both.

Even if it was due to guide data (the recording) the scrappers should still be able to display them correctly.

There are two issues

1 plex cant record both eps (Don’t believe its guide data issue)
2 Even if the recordings was done outside of plex it still can’t display part 1 and part 2 correctly. (Not able to match to tvdb)

This is an issue with plex in general.

it merges both parts because there the same episode number and plays one after an other.

If plex is going to handle playback like this it needs to merge the info and call it part 1 and part 2 (because it’s detected 2 files)

I am not understanding exactly what you are asking here. In one part you seem to be saying that Plex is displaying them as 2 shows:

If plex is going to handle playback like this it needs to merge the info and call it part 1 and part 2 (because it’s detected 2 files)

Then you are saying it does play both files but has them combined as one episode:

So is Plex displaying the Episode as a single Episode and playing both parts correctly?

Here is a link to the Multi-part episode naming convention for Plex. From this document it states that Plex will play both parts if named correctly:
“Episodes that are split into several parts (e.g. CD-1, CD-2), can be played back as a single file if named correctly.”

Plex is having an issue recording these multi-part episodes because they have the same episode data in the program guide from what I understand. I do not live in an area where I receive the show to even look at how the Program Guide data appears.

I would also suggest doing a search of the forum for Coronation Street. There are at least 5 pages of other threads all discussing this same issue.

These episodes failed on my Humax Freesat Box - so would guess the issue is more Guide Data related.

Ig displays one episode called part 2. It will play the first part and then moves on to part 2.

To make this correct plex needs to do one of two options.

1)If it going to merge the videos it needs to merge part 1 and part 2 in the guide (description to display part 1 and 2)and put both descriptions in.

  1. display both parts separately , this would be better because currently it always shows part 2. but part 2 might not have aired yet

it’s confusing when part 1 is only available and it shows part 2…

+1 hope Plex fix it soon…
