How to record multipart movie if EPG doesn't acknowledge parts?

I had set the DVR to record a movie but I didn’t realize that it was only half of the movie. So afterword I found another entry in the program guide for an upcoming airing and assumed it was the second part. I figured if I set it to record the coming show then the DVR would skip it, seeing that it was already in my library, so I edited the Title on the recorded entry so that the name included “Part 1”. Either I did something wrong or that didn’t help. I’m not sure. So I’m asking, how should I handle this situation if I have a two part recording in the future but the EPG doesn’t distinguish part 1 from part 2?

You could move the recording out of the recording library. Plex should not see the first recording and record part 2.

Could you be more specific? It seems the DVR sees all libraries of type “movie” or “other video” when setting a recording of a movie. I can only think you must mean remove it entirely from plex directory locations.

It seems like I should be able to change something without removing it from the library, such as renaming it, so that the dvr doesn’t recognize it as already existing in my library.

I have never tried changing the title or other fields for the show in the library. I normally move the file from the physical location on disk out of the folder seen by Plex, after the new recording is complete I love it back.
