Actually Plex is able to use a single tuner to stream the same show to multiple devices. Below is a picture of me streaming the same Curious George from Live TV to different devices/players. On the left is a TV with a Roku stick, in the middle is Plex Web in Firefox, on the right is Plex Media Player. As you can see each device/player is at a different spot in the show because Plex is having to transcode the show for what settings the device is capable of.
Below is a screenshot of the tuner device showing only a single tuner is in use.
The only issue I have is the display within Plex of the number of tuners in use. Plex shows 3 tuners in use since there are 3 streams being played. Plex is aware of this issue, they just need time to work on this minor display issue after they get some of the more higher priority issues resolved.
I think it is more than just a display issue. The other day, I was doing the same thing but one of my scheduled recordings failed with no tuners available, even though there was one available on the HDHomeRun.
Really? - Plex is able to use a single tuner to stream the same show to multiple devices
Never worked for me and I don’t care about this - I can show several videos of it failing - actually I cant even show you one example where this have worked for me (maybe my NVidia Shield TV 2017 is not powerfully enough to transcode multiple devices on the fly)
What I care about…
How about record the program I ask you to record! - instead failing and I don’t get to watch anything.
Play LIVE TV without throwing error every 10mins or when I change channel!
Some form of TV Guide would be nice (scheduled for Q4 2017, now Q1 2018)
my PlexPass will have expired by the time they release this.
Basically, I am unhappy customer - if Plex refunded me now (which they never do as they dont do refunds)

I’m still considering the Plex Pass lifetime (now I am using the 30 day trial), I have been using Plex for many years and it has continued to improve, my one pet peeve is the way the live TV channels appear, they work great however I’d like a view with channel numbers instead of seasons, even a list view like what the HDHR plugin provides (HDHR itself doesn’t work great for me). I think from the outside saying this is simple stuff is wrong unless you are a programmer and are willing to jump in and show them some way to do the things you want don’t assume it’s easy.

This is LIVE TV - not rocket science.
This tech has been around for ages, its not like bleeding edge.
This is simple stuff which Plex cant even get right and charges premium for a product.
Forget all this fancy ‘****’ and get the basics working first (e.g. LIVE TV and Record)
Correct it’s not rocket science but it’s surely not simple stuff as you put it. If it was there would be other software out there doing what Plex is attempting to do and there aren’t.
The closest thing is Emby but it’s full of issues and has it’s own unique set of problems that would make it a non starter for many people here. This “simple stuff” is much harder than you think.
Plex is concentrating as I’ve stated numerous times on the core parts before adding to many bells and whistles.
Whole different class of software. This would be what you call “simple” since you can talk directly to the tuner on a local network and pull the stream directly from the tuner. If you don’t care about streaming, don’t care about the number of tuners you use when multiple people are watching the same channel, don’t care about pause or timeshifting or the ability to RW then just use them or even VLC which can do this.
Try using HDHomerun on a computer over wifi in a fringe part of your house where the bandwidth has dropped and you will get a very choppy experience that won’t be watchable. With plex it could auto adjust or you could set the bandwidth lower to still be able to watch it.
Apples and Oranges
PS remember if you are experiencing trouble upload you logs and an explanation so we can investigate. Just complaining with contributing isn’t going to get you much satisfaction.
@cayars How can my 8 year old tv play live tv still to this day with no ■■■■■■■ problems and even record (wow) and plex cant do that?? im sure the knowledge and software is out there, they just need to get their heads together…

@NicholasAdmin what question did you have above? The only one I see is:

I was watching Live TV earlier this morning on 3 different system (Roku, Plex Web, and Plex Media Player) at the same time, and again this afternoon after getting home from work. My Plex Server has also recorded over 200 shows so far this month. Perhaps if you are having problems with Live TV and DVR you should start a new thread and post your specific issues you are experiencing instead of posting in an existing thread discussing a Program Guide UI.

What TV do you have that can record?
None of this excuses the lack of a guide for live TV. Something lone developers have been creating for various platforms for a significant amount of time, with ease.
No it doesn’t but I’d like to know the answer. Never heard of a TV that can record TV before.
We have a guide in Plex already. It’s just the type of guide you are asking for. It works very well for DVR but it’s not the most ideal way to use Live TV for sure. I surely want a “standard” grid EPG myself. Would make using Live TV a whole lot simpler. Plex knows and understands this and it’s going to be part of the finished product as already mentioned.
All the comments about people have been doing this forever, etc is not factual. No one that I know of is doing anything like Plex with all the moving parts and making a product that will do everything Plex plans for it’s product to do. Emby is about the closest but it has tons of issues in it’s production releases. Sure many people have done parts of it but the “glue” that joins many of these parts together can throw a monkey wrench into things. The issues are being worked out at a good pace and the product will be better off from spending the time now vs later trying to work them out.
I’d rather them do it this way then end up with a half baked product. Remember this is a PREVIEW to get help testing what’s been released. It’s not meant to be the end all, be all product.
havent you heard of a tv that can record tv channels on your tv?? thats like every tv. we have 4 tv’s in the house that can do that and from what i know my brothers tv can record too?

Is this a joke? Are you talking about recording on a cable providers DVR that works on all of your TVs?
joke? no, its built into our tv’s… you just select a movie or a tv show or whatever on one of the channels and press record. then it automaticly records to the external harddrive

What TV does that? Can you tell me the brand and model?
Are you saying that you actually physically plug the hard drive into the back of your TV? Is it a USB connection?
Sorry I’ve never heard of such a thing so I’m curious.

Yes, I think all my TVs have a USB port of varying capability. But as far as I know they’re all involved in playing media. I’ve never heard of a TV having an inherent ability to record anything like that. Is it some sort of app built into the TV? Can you only record over the air Or can it also record cable?
